Capers and X-Men both earn fourth-straight win to clinch playoff berths

The Cape Breton Capers and StFX X-Men both picked up wins on the weekend, allowing them to extend their winning streaks to four, clinching playoff spots.

The Capers picked up six points, starting the weekend off with a 2-1 win over the visiting Memorial Sea-Hawks. Cape Breton's Owen Sheppard opened the scoring, with Memorial's Colin Connors tying things at 1-1 just minutes later. In the second half, the Capers regained their one-goal advantage in the 51st minute when Andre Beecher soared to head a Sebastian Cochrane corner kick top shelf inside the left goal post to make it 2-1. Cape Breton's Daniel Clarke made seven saves in the win, while Louis-Charles Vaillancourt made three saves on Memorial's side.

Cape Breton then blanked the Mount Allison Mounties 3-0 Saturday in Sackville. Jamie Nicholson, Nikolai Scheurenbran and Ze Cunha all found the back of the net in the win, with Cunha earning Player of the Game honours. Daniel Clarke made one save for the shutout victory.

The X-Men won their final home game of the season with a 3-1 victory over the Memorial Sea-Hawks Sunday afternoon. Logan Rieck, Samuel Barrowcliffe and Kyle Cordeiro recorded goals in the win, while Memorial's lone goal came from Gabriel Araujo Lage.
