Capers earn fourth-straight win with victory over Axemen

AUS Men's soccer returned this weekend after postponements due to Hurricane Fiona, which saw the U SPORTS No. 2 ranked Cape Breton Capers earn their fourth-straight victory as they blanked the Acadia Axemen 2-0 Friday night..

Kairo Coore and Cian Lynch found the back of the net for Cape Breton in the win, while Daniel Clarke made two saves in net for the shutout. Lynch was named the Subway AUS Player of the game for his one goal and assist effort to help give the Capers the victory.

The U SPORTS No. 6 ranked StFX X-Men were handed their first loss of the season Saturday night as they fell 2-1 to the Memorial Sea-Hawks Saturday afternoon. Memorial's Harry Carter scored the game wining goal in the 79th minute to give the Sea-Hawks the victory. Colin Connors also found the back of the net in the win, while Samuel Barrowcliffe scored the lone goal for StFX. Carter received Subway Player of the Game honours for his efforts.

The X-Men bounced back Sunday afternoon, scoring three unanswered goals to earn the 3-1 victory. Barrowcliffe scored his second tally of the weekend, while Logan Rieck found the back of the net twice. The lone Memorial goal came from Felly Elonda. STFX midfielder Max Bodurtha received Subway Player of the Game honours for his outstanding efforts in the game.

Despite splitting their weekend games, the X-Men remain atop the AUS standings with 15 points.

The Dalhousie Tigers played to a win and a draw this weekend, first travelling to Sackville to face the Mount Allison Mounties. The Mounties and Tigers played to a 0-0 draw, with Aiden Rushenas making five saves in net for the Tigers and Rhys Chambers stopping four shots for the Mounties.

The Tigers then hosted the Acadia Axemen Sunday afternoon, earning a 2-0 shutout win. Jack Ellis and Suliman Elomrani found the back of the net in the victory, while Rushenas made six saves for the shutout. Dalhousie's Elomrani was named the Subway Player of the Game with his goal and four shots on goal. AJ Magamura had three shots and two shots on goal to lead the way for the Acadia Axemen.

The Saint Mary's Huskies travelled to Fredericton Saturday to take on the UNB Reds, where they earned a 1-0 road victory. The only goal of the game came in the 51st minute when Saint Mary's Adam Dunsworth laid a cross into the UNB box that second-year Huskie Sean Freeman converted, breaking a 0-0 deadlock. Jensen Brown made three saves in net for Saint Mary's for the shutout. 

The Reds bounced back Sunday, earning a 1-0 overtime victory with a goal from Keji Adeniyi-Olonade to secre the win. Adeniyi-Olonade earned Subway Player of the Game honours for his efforts.

The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus blanked the Huskies 2-0 Sunday afternoon, with Mohamed Lamine Toure finding the back of the net twice in the victory. Ryan Davis made seven saves in net for the Huskies to earn the shutout.
