Huskies clinch third and final U Cup berth after 4-3 triple overtime win over Moncton

(MONCTON, N.B.) Keith Getson's second goal of the game lifted the Saint Mary's Huskies to a 4-3 win over the Moncton Aigles Bleus Wednesday evening in Moncton, but it didn't come until the third overtime period and a marathon 102:20 minutes of play.

With the win, the Huskies swept the consolation final series to clinch the third and final Atlantic conference berth at the 2020 Cavendish Farms University Cup being held March 12-15 at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax. 

The game was played in front of over 1,100 spectators at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The first period was scoreless. In the second frame, Moncton goals were scored by Vincent Deslauriers (from Francis Thibeault and Édouard Michaud) at 4:42; Michaud (from Deslaurieurs and Alexis Roy) at 14:51 and Danick Crète (Thibeault, Joey Richard) at 17:23.

Saint Mary's trailed 3-1 after two periods. Anthony Repaci and Dawson Theede each scored for the Huskies in the final frame of regular to send the game in overtime. The first two overtime periods remained scoreless with several missed chances on both sides and both goaltenders holding strong.  

Moncton was 0-for-5 on the power play and Saint Mary's was 2-for-3.

Moncton goaltender Étienne Montpetit faced 53 shots and was named Subway Player of the Game. Eric Brassard faced 45 shots in the win for Saint Mary's.
