Aigles Bleus down Tommies 9-2

(MONCTON, N.B.) - The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (5-5-0) scored six unanswered goals in the third period to top the St. Thomas University Tommies (3-8-1) 9-2 in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action played in front of more than 550 spectators Saturday evening at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

Moncton defenceman Pierre Durepos scored two goals, while singles came from Samuel Groulx, Eric Faille, Pier-Antoine Dion, Alex Emond, Alexandre Quesnel, Maxime Pilon and Allain Saulnier.

Goaltender Jonathan Groenheyde faced 41 shots for the visitors, including 15 in the first and 14 in the third.

Faille and Groulx each contributed three assists and Alex Saulnier, Simon Lacroix and Allain Saulnier, two each. 

Stephen Sanza and Randy Cameron, late in the first period, replied for the Tommies who managed 21 shots on Adrien Lemay. The score was 2-2 after the first period and 3-2 after 40 minutes.

"We played well and the guys response to our challenge was encouraging," said Moncton head coach Serge Bourgeois. "The opposition was strong this evening, even with a high score. I think they just ran out of gas at the end."

The Aigles will host the UPEI Panthers Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena, a game postponed from Nov. 2.

St. Thomas will host the Saint Mary's Huskies Friday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.
