Panthers earn rare road win
The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (5-11-1-0=11pts, 7th position) did not play their best in an Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey game Wednesday with a 4-2 loss to the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (7-7-2-1=17pts, 3rd position) at the J.-Louis-Lévesque arena in front of more than 440 spectators.
MONCTON, NB—The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (5-11-1-0=11pts, 7th position) did not play their best in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game Wednesday with a 4-2 loss to the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (7-7-2-1=17pts, 3rd position) at the J.-Louis-Lévesque arena in front of more than 440 spectators.
They missed a great opportunity to add important points in the standings with an 18th and last game of the first semester to be played Friday against the University of New Brunswick Reds. Moncton has lost its last two games and the Panthers have won their last two.
It didn't take long for the visitors to score when Troy Lajeunesse, at 5:00 of the first period, intercepted a pass to get in front of goalkeeper Émile Samson and beat him on a hard shot. Gabriel Vanier (Olivier-Luc Haché, Justin Miron) levelled the odds 8 minutes later, but Kyle Maksimovich gave the visitors a one-goal lead a minute later. On a man advantage, at 17:28, Maxime Boudreau (Denis Toner, Mika Cyr) had a hard shot from the front of the net to outsmart Jonah Capriotti with a score of 2-2 after 20 minutes. The Aigles scored two goals on only 4 shots compared to 13 for the visitors.
Jesse Sutton broke the tie in the middle period to give the visitors a 3-2 lead. TJ Shea managed the last and insurance in an empty net late in the third period. The Panthers led 33 (13-1-2-8) to 24 (4-14-6) on shots on goal. The Panthers could not score in 4 attempts on the man advantage and the Aigles Bleus were 1 in 5.
