McDonald's 32 points highlight's win over UNB

WOLFVILLE, NS – With tonight's 92–71 win over the UNB REDS, the Acadia Axewomen extended their winning streak to three games.

The Axewomen were led by Subway Player of the Game Haley McDonald (Port Williams, NS). McDonald stuffed the stat sheet tonight as she tallied 32 points along with 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Marley Curwin (Halifax, NS) was the player of the game for UNB. Curwin recorded 15 points and was a threat from deep, converting three of her team's 9 made threes. 

Both teams were looking to secure the best seed possible for the upcoming playoffs made for a high-energy match. 

It was a fast-paced match between the top two scoring teams in AUS. Both teams had four players scoring in double figures. UNB made a push in the second quarter as they dug in on defense but were not able to regain the lead after the opening quarter. 

Acadia's Sarah Delorey (Elmsdale, NS) and Elizabeth Iseyemi (Dartmouth, NS) each recorded a double-double. Delorey scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds while Iseyemi had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Samantha Russell (Dartmouth, NS) also provided a boost off the bench for the Axewomen, scoring 15 points in the contest. 

For the Reds, former Axewoman Jayda Veinot added 15 points along with 10 rebounds in her return to the Stu Aberdeen Court. Erin Ingalls (St. George, NB) added 11 points and 8 rebounds off of the bench while Jolianne Guay (Prévost, QC) contributed 10 points of her own. 

The win further cements Acadia as the top seed in AUS with their 12–3 record. For the Reds, the loss drops them to a record of  –7, and currently tied for fourth in the conference standings.

The Acadia Axewomen remain at home next weekend to face the Memorial Sea-Hawks on next Saturday and Sunday – both games worth 4 points each in the standings. UNB will face the StFX X-Women at home for a four-point game next Sunday.
