(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS beat the Mount Allison Mounties 5-1 Saturday night in
Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action at UNB's Aitken Centre.
Melanie Drost (Nepean, ON) had a goal and an assist for the REDS and was named the Tim Horton's Player of the Game.
Mount Allison opened the scoring on a goal by Abby Fleet (Paradise, NL), 13:54 into the first period.
The REDS applied pressure in the Mounties zone, but goalie Hanna Pagdato (Winnipeg, MB)
made several saves to maintain the lead.
The REDS were able to equal the score in the second period with Jamie Arsenault's (Sackville,
NB) first AUS goal, at 6:12.
Less than two minutes later, with UNB on the power-play, the REDS took the lead on a goal by Payton Hargreaves (Whitby, ON).
Alexandra Parvin (Burlngton, ON) further extended the lead, scoring her first AUS goal at
14:44.
In the third period, Drost and Jorja Nystrom (Leduc, AB) each scored for the REDS, Nystrom's coming on the power-play.
The REDS outshot the Mounties 40-15.
UNB is now 5-1-0-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) while the Mounties fall to 0-6-0-0.
The REDS are back in action on Wednesday against the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues, in Moncton. Puck drop scheduled for 7:00pm.
The Mounties will travel back to Fredericton on Friday to face the St. Thomas Tommies. That game is scheduled for a 7:00pm start as well.
