Nationally ranked Reds shutout Axemen

WOLFVILLE – The Acadia Axemen were unable to solve the nationally ranked UNB Reds on Friday night as UNB picked up a 5-0 victory to stay undefeated. 

The No. 1 ranked team in the country scored a pair of goals in each of the first two periods.  

Brady Gilmour opened the scoring 8:22 into the opening period, with Austen Keating netting a power play goal at the 16:44 mark.  

Jason Willms and Justin Nolet scored for the Reds in the second frame, with Isaac Nurse adding the fifth goal with just 27 seconds remaining in the third period.  

Samuel Richard made 20 saves for the shutout, his second of the season. Brayden Peters made 36 saves in his first loss as an Axemen. 

Acadia is back in action on Saturday night when they host Moncton. Puck drop is 7 p.m.  

For the Reds, they will battle the second place Saint Mary's Huskies in Halifax at 7 p.m.
