Iseyemi, Russell led Axewomen past Sea-Hawks

WOLFVILLE – The No. 10 ranked Acadia Axewomen pushed their win streak to five games on Friday with an 81-73 victory over the Memorial Sea-Hawks.

The win moved Acadia into second place, tied with Saint Mary's with a 5-2 record, while Memorial dropped to 2-5. UNB continues to hold top spot in the conference with a 6-0 record.

Elizabeth Iseyemi (Dartmouth, NS) led Acadia scorers with 27 points. She picked up her fifth double-double of the year by adding 10 rebounds, while also being key defensively with a game-high four steals. Her offensive output also moved her to first in the AUS in scoring with 143 points and 20.4 points per game.

Samantha Russell (Dartmouth, NS) also had a double-double for the Axewomen, scoring 21, while pulling in 11 defensive rebounds.

Barrie, Ontario's Alan Short led the game in scoring, finishing with 29 points to lead the Sea-Hawks. The only other Memorial player to hit double-digits was Rebecka Ekstrom (Stockholm, Sweden) who scored 12.

Hannah Green (Flatrock, NL) neared a double-double, grabbing 13 rebounds and finishing with eight points.

Both teams meet again on Saturday in Wolfville, with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m. Atlantic and 6:30 p.m. in Newfoundland.
