(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 2-1 in a shootout in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action on Friday night at UNB's Aitken Centre.
After a scoreless first period, Mackenzie Keenan (Midhurst, ON) put the REDS on the board early in the second, giving them a 1-0 lead.
The Mounties responded early in the third, with Chelsea Krahenbil (Winnipeg, MB) finding the back of the net just 13 seconds into the period to tie the game 1-1.
Despite both teams having opportunities, the game remained deadlocked, heading into overtime and then the shootout.
In the shootout, Olivia Eustace (Riverview, NB) and Rylee Strohm (Kingsville, ON) each converted, while Mount Allison's Samantha Taylor (Halifax, NS) scored, but it wasn't enough as the REDS secured the win.
UNB outshot Mount Allison 34-22 in the game.
With the win, the REDS remain in second place in the AUS standings with a 17-5-1-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL) record, while Mount Allison stays in last place at 1-22-0-1.
