AUS releases 2024 fall schedule

(HALIFAX, N.S.) – Atlantic University Sport released the 2024 fall sports schedule today, including women’s rugby, men’s football, men’s and women’s soccer and men’s and women’s cross country. Hosts for each of the 2024 fall championships have also been confirmed.

Women’s Rugby

Opening day for the 2024 women’s rugby season is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7 with a pair of games leading things off.

The defending champions from STFX will start their season on the road with a 2 p.m. matchup against the host Saint Mary’s Huskies in Halifax, N.S. The X-Women have captured six of the last seven AUS titles and will look to continue their dominance this coming season.

The day’s other contest pits the UPEI Panthers against the visiting Acadia Axewomen in another 2 p.m. start. UPEI captured their first AUS banner in 2022 but failed in their bid to repeat, falling to STFX by a score of 26-22 in last season’s championship game.

The 2024 AUS Women’s Rugby Championship, presented by Bell, will once again feature a three-team playoff format. The team that finishes third in the regular season standings will visit the second-place team in Week 7, with the winner moving on to visit the first-place team the following week in the championship final game.

The Panthers will host Canada’s best from Oct. 30-Nov. 3 when they will host the 2024 U SPORTS Women’s Rugby Championship. The AUS conference will have two teams take part in the national tournament. With UPEI hosting, if the Panthers win the AUS title, the runner-up will earn the second berth. If UPEI does not win the AUS title, the conference champion will earn the AUS berth and UPEI will receive the host berth.

Football

The 2024 AUS football season will once again see each of the five teams play eight regular season games over the course of a 10-week schedule.

The first weekend of play is set for Aug. 24 with the Bishop’s Gaiters heading to Halifax to take on the host Saint Mary’s Huskies in a 3 p.m. kickoff, and the Acadia Axemen heading to Sackville, N.B., to meet the host Mount Allison Mounties in a 2 p.m. start.

The three-time defending champion STFX X-Men will have to wait until Week 2 (Saturday, Aug. 31) to start their quest for another AUS title when they travel to Lennoxville, Que., to face Bishop’s in a rematch of last year’s championship title game. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. EDT.

STFX have not lost a regular season game since Oct. 11, 2019, when they fell 44-25 to Acadia. Since then, they have been victorious in 23-straight regular season contests.

Acadia will host their home opener in Week 2 against the visiting Huskies at 2 p.m.

The X-Men’s home opener will come in Week 3 (Saturday, Sept. 7) when they welcome the Axemen to STFX Stadium in a 2 p.m. start.

Regular season play will wrap up the Oct. 25-26 weekend with the Mounties heading to Bishop’s in a Friday night game set to begin at 7 p.m. (Eastern). The next day, Saint Mary’s travels to STFX for a 2 p.m. matchup.

AUS playoffs begin the following weekend with a pair of semifinal games. The first-place team will host the fourth-place team while the second-seeded team hosts the third-seeded team. Both games will be played Saturday, Nov. 2.

The winner will advance to the 2024 AUS Loney Bowl, presented by Bell, which will be played Saturday, Nov. 9 and hosted by the highest-seeded remaining team.

The AUS champion will then host the Ontario conference champion in the 2024 U SPORTS Uteck Bowl Saturday, Nov. 16.   

The Mitchell Bowl and Uteck Bowl winners will advance to play each other in the 59^th Vanier Cup on Saturday, Nov. 23. The 2024 national championship game will be hosted by Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont.

Soccer

Each of the 10 AUS men’s and women’s soccer teams will be in action when the season begins on the Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 weekend.

STFX enters the season as the reigning AUS champions on both the men’s and women’s side, and will begin their year on the road against the Saint Mary’s Huskies on Friday, Aug. 30 with the women starting at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7:15 p.m.

The Cape Breton Capers men’s team won the 2023 U SPORTS national title on their home pitch last season. They will open their season on Friday, Aug. 30 on the road against the UNB Reds at 7:15 p.m.

The X-Women will host the AUS Women’s Soccer Championship, presented by Bell from Oct. 24-27, while UNB will host the AUS Men’s Soccer Championship that same weekend.

Dalhousie University will welcome the country’s best from Nov. 7-10 when they host the 2024 U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Championship in Halifax.

The 2024 U SPORTS Men’s Soccer Championship will be played that same weekend in Oshawa, Ont., with Ontario Tech University playing hosts.

Cross Country

AUS men’s and women’s cross-country teams will pull the trigger on their season Sept. 7 when Acadia hosts the year’s first meet in Wolfville, N.S.

STFX will host the second meet of the season on Sept. 21 in Antigonish, N.S., while Moncton will welcome the conference’s runners a few weeks later on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Memorial University will host the 2024 AUS Cross Country Championships, presented by Bell, on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Runners who qualify for the 2024 U SPORTS Cross Country Championships will head to Kelowna, B.C. for the event hosted by UBC-Okanagan on Nov. 9.

Les calendriers des sports d'automne 2024 de SUA sont publiés

(HALIFAX, N.-É.) – Sport universitaire de l’Atlantique a publié aujourd'hui le calendrier des sports d'automne 2024, qui comprend le rugby féminin, le football masculin, le soccer masculin et féminin et le cross-country masculin et féminin. Les hôtes de chacun des championnats d'automne 2024 ont également été confirmés.

Rugby féminin

La journée d'ouverture de la saison 2024 de rugby féminin est prévue pour le samedi 7 septembre avec deux matchs pour commencer.

Les championnes en titre de STFX commenceront leur saison sur la route avec un match à 14 h contre les Huskies de Saint Mary's à Halifax (N.-É.). Les X-Women ont remporté six des sept derniers titres de SUA et tenteront de poursuivre leur domination cette année.

L'autre match de la journée opposera les Panthers de UPEI aux Axewomen d'Acadia dans un autre match qui débutera à 14 heures. UPEI a remporté sa première bannière de SUA en 2022, mais n'a pas réussi à répéter l'exploit, s'inclinant devant STFX par le score de 26 à 22 dans le match de championnat de la saison dernière.

Le championnat de rugby féminin 2024 de SUA, présenté par Bell, comportera à nouveau un format de séries éliminatoires à trois équipes. L'équipe qui terminera troisième au classement de la saison régulière rendra visite à l'équipe classée deuxième en semaine 7, et le vainqueur ira rendre visite à l'équipe classée première la semaine suivante lors du match final du championnat.

Les Panthers accueilleront les meilleures équipes du Canada du 30 octobre au 3 novembre lorsqu'elles accueilleront le Championnat de rugby féminin U SPORTS 2024. Deux équipes de la conférence SUA participeront au tournoi national. UPEI étant l'hôte, si les Panthers remportent le titre de la conférence SUA, l’équipe finaliste obtiendra la deuxième place. Si UPEI ne remporte pas le titre de SUA, l’équipe championne de la conférence obtiendra la place de SUA et UPEI recevra la place d'hôte.

Football

La saison 2024 de football de SUA verra à nouveau chacune des cinq équipes disputer huit matchs de saison régulière au cours d'un calendrier de 10 semaines.

La première fin de semaine de jeu aura lieu le 24 août, alors que les Gaiters de Bishop's se rendront à Halifax pour affronter les Huskies de Saint Mary's à 15 h, et que les Axemen d'Acadia se rendront à Sackville, au Nouveau-Brunswick, pour rencontrer les Mounties de Mount Allison à 14 h.

Les X-Men de STFX, doubles champions en titre, devront attendre la deuxième semaine (samedi 31 août) pour entamer leur quête d'un autre titre de SUA lorsqu'ils se rendront à Lennoxville, au Québec, pour affronter Bishop's dans une reprise du match de championnat de l'an dernier. Le coup d'envoi sera donné à 14 heures (heure de l'Est).

STFX n'a pas perdu de match en saison régulière depuis le 11 octobre 2019, alors qu'ils s'étaient inclinés à 44-25 contre Acadia. Depuis, ils ont remporté 23 rencontres consécutives en saison régulière.

Acadia accueillera les Huskies pour son premier match à domicile lors de la deuxième semaine, à 14 h.

Le match d'ouverture à domicile des X-Men aura lieu la 3e semaine (samedi 7 septembre), alors qu'ils accueilleront les Axemen au stade de STFX, à 14 h.

La saison régulière se terminera le week-end des 25 et 26 octobre avec les Mounties qui se rendront à Bishop's pour un match vendredi soir qui débutera à 19 heures (heure de l'Est). Le lendemain, Saint Mary's se rendra à STFX pour un match à 14 heures.

Les séries éliminatoires de SUA débuteront le week-end suivant avec deux demi-finales. L'équipe classée première accueillera l'équipe classée quatrième, tandis que l'équipe classée deuxième accueillera l'équipe classée troisième. Les deux matchs auront lieu le samedi 2 novembre.

L’équipe gagnante se qualifiera pour le Loney Bowl 2024 de SUA, présenté par Bell, qui sera joué le samedi 9 novembre et accueilli par l'équipe restante la mieux classée.

Le champion de SUA accueillera ensuite le champion de la conférence de l'Ontario dans le U SPORTS Uteck Bowl 2024, le samedi 16 novembre.

Les gagnants du Mitchell Bowl et du Uteck Bowl s'affronteront lors de la 59e édition de la Coupe Vanier, le samedi 23 novembre. Le championnat national de 2024 sera organisé par l'Université Queen's à Kingston, en Ontario.

Soccer

Chacune des 10 équipes de soccer masculin et féminin de SUA sera en action lorsque la saison débutera la fin de semaine du 30 août au 1er septembre.

STFX entame la saison en tant que championne en titre de SUA, tant chez les hommes que chez les femmes, et commencera son année sur la route contre les Huskies de Saint Mary's le vendredi 30 août, les femmes commençant à 17 h, suivies des hommes à 19 h 15.

L'équipe masculine des Capers du Cap-Breton a remporté le titre national 2023 de U SPORTS sur son terrain la saison dernière. Ils ouvriront leur saison le vendredi 30 août sur la route contre les Reds de UNB à 19 h 15.

Les X-Women accueilleront le Championnat de soccer féminin de SUA, présenté par Bell, du 24 au 27 octobre, tandis que UNB accueillera le Championnat de soccer masculin de SUA la même fin de semaine.

L'Université Dalhousie accueillera les meilleures joueuses du pays du 7 au 10 novembre lorsqu'elle accueillera le Championnat de soccer féminin 2024 U SPORTS à Halifax.

Le championnat de soccer masculin U SPORTS 2024 se déroulera le même week-end à Oshawa, en Ontario, et l'Université Ontario Tech en sera l'hôte.

Cross-country

Les équipes masculines et féminines de cross-country de SUA entameront leur saison le 7 septembre lorsque Acadia accueillera la première rencontre de l'année à Wolfville, en Nouvelle-Écosse.

STFX accueillera la deuxième rencontre de la saison le 21 septembre à Antigonish, N.-É., tandis que Moncton accueillera les coureurs de la conférence quelques semaines plus tard, le samedi 5 octobre.

L'Université Memorial accueillera les Championnats de cross-country de SUA 2024, présentés par Bell, le samedi 26 octobre.

Les coureurs qui se qualifient pour les Championnats de cross-country U SPORTS 2024 se rendront à Kelowna, en Colombie-Britannique, pour l'événement organisé par UBC-Okanagan le 9 novembre.
