(HALIFAX, N.S.) The Dalhousie women and the Memorial men’s curling teams remain unbeaten after two days of competition at the 2020 Subway AUS Curling Championships, presented by Keep It Social, being hosted by the Saint Mary’s Huskies at the CFB Halifax Curling Club.
Six women’s and five men’s teams are participating in this year’s event.
On the women’s side, Dal’s Kristin Clarke improved to 4-0 with wins over Mount Allison, Memorial and StFX on Saturday.
UNB’s Justine Comeau sits in second place at 3-1, losing a seven-end draw 6-2 to Memoria’s Mackenzie Mitchell.
Memorial and Mount Allison are both 2-2 while the host Huskies are 1-3 and StFx is 0-4.
Over on the men’s bracket, the Memorial Sea-Hawks and skip Greg Blyde sit in first place with a perfect 4-0 record. The Sea-Hawks knocked off StFX 10-2 in the morning and Dal 5-3 in the afternoon draw.
In their evening draw, Memorial beat SMU 4-3 in a matchup of unbeatens.
SMU (2-1) scored singles early on only to see Memorial score two in the fifth. Another SMU single in the sixth end saw the Sea-Hawks score singles in the seventh and eighth ends for the 4-3 win.
The Tigers men’s team, skipped by Matthew Manuel, sit 2-1 after an afternoon loss to Memorial and an evening draw win over UNB.
Both UNB and StFX are 0-3.
Day 3 begins Saturday, at 12 noon with the fifth and final draw followed by the semifinals at 7 p.m. and the AUS finals Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
All four finalists will earn berths into the U SPORTS national championship March 11-15 in Portage la Prairie, Man.
