(HALIFAX, N.S.) Acadia Axewomen swimmer Sophie Rooney and UNB REDS men's hockey player Emmett Sproule have earned AUS Athlete of the Week honours following their performances this past week.

Acadia Axewomen swimmer Sophie Rooney is the Atlantic University Sport Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 3, 2024.
Rooney led the Axewomen to their first-ever team victory at Acadia’s Jack Scholz Invitational meet in the event’s 15-year history. She earned first-place finishes in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke events, and finished second in the 50m butterfly.
Rooney also earned first place as a member of Acadia’s 200m medley relay team and second place as part of the 400m freestyle relay team.

Hometown: Collingwood, Ont.

Academic program: Business Administration
UNB REDS men’s hockey forward Emmett Sproule is the Atlantic University Sport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 3, 2024.
Sproule was a major contributor with seven points in two UNB wins this past week.
In Wednesday’s 5-2 win over Moncton, the third-year forward scored twice, including the game winner, added an assist, and was named player of the game.
In Saturday’s 11-1 victory over UPEI, he scored another pair of goals and added two more assists, again earning player of the game honours.
The REDS currently sit in first place in the conference standings with a 9-0-1-0 record.
