Name: Ally Rowe
University: Cape Breton University

Cape Breton University forward Ally Rowe is the Atlantic University Sport Co-Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 27, 2024.

Rowe, a fifth-year Arts student from Kitchener, Ont., capped off her AUS career by leading her Capers to the AUS women’s soccer championship this past weekend – the 13th in program history.

In Friday’s 4-0 semifinal victory over Memorial University, Rowe scored a pair of goals. Two days later in the championship final, Rowe assisted on the game-winning goal by teammate Lauren Rowe as her team defeated UNB 2-0. Following the win, Rowe was named the championship’s MVP.

Earlier in the week, Rowe picked up her third consecutive AUS Women’s Soccer MVP award, as well as her fifth straight First Team All-Star selection.

Rowe’s Capers will now turn their attention to the U SPORTS Women’s Soccer Championship, hosted by Dalhousie University, Nov. 7-10.

STFX runner Eileen Benoit is the Atlantic University Sport Co-Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 27, 2024.

Benoit was named the 2024 AUS Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year after winning gold in the women’s 8-kilometre race at the Cross Country Championships, hosted Saturday by Memorial University.

Benoit, an Education student from Windsor, NS, finished the course in a time of 30:24 to earn her first AUS individual gold medal, as well as a First Team All-Star selection. Her win also helped the X-Women earn their fourth straight team gold medal as well.

Up next for Benoit and her X-Women is the U SPORTS Cross Country Championships, hosted by UBC Okanagan in Kelowna, BC on Nov. 9.

Name: Frances Claire Aceron
University: Acadia University

Position: Centre
Hometown: Estevan, SK
Year of eligibility: First
Academic program: Nursing

Acadia University centre Frances Claire Aceron is the Atlantic University Sport Co-Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 27, 2024.

A first-year Nursing student from Estevan, SK, Aceron led her Axewomen to their first AUS rugby title since 2015, beating the host STFX X-Women 29-25 in a thrilling championship final last Wednesday.

Aceron made several key tackles, while also chipping in offensively with a try in the first half to be named the championship’s MVP.

The Axewomen will now head to Charlottetown, PEI, this week to take part in the U SPORTS Women’s Rugby Championship – hosted by the UPEI Panthers Oct. 30 to Nov. 3.

STFX midfielder Kyle Cordeiro is the Atlantic University Sport Co-Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 27, 2024.

The fifth-year Business student from Oakville, ON, led his X-Men to their second straight AUS men’s soccer title this weekend. In Friday’s 4-1 semifinal win over Cape Breton, Cordeiro played all 90 minutes while helping his team earn a trip to the championship game.

In the final, Cordeiro scored the game’s only goal in overtime to defeat the host UNB REDS 1-0 and raise the AUS banner. He was named the Championship MVP, as well as earning an AUS First Team All-Star selection earlier in the week.

STFX will now head to Ontario to take part in the U SPORTS Men’s Soccer Championship, hosted by Ontario Tech University in Oshawa, ON, Nov. 7-10.

UNB REDS runner Jared Howse is the Atlantic University Sport Co-Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 27, 2024.

The product of Red Deer, AB, Howse captured the 2024 AUS Cross Country Championships individual gold medal this weekend in St. John’s, NL. The win comes after Howse earned the silver medal in both 2023 and 2022.

Howse closed the 8-kilometre loop in a time of 24:53.8 to not only finish first, but also lead his REDS men’s team to their second straight team title.

He also was named an AUS First Team All-Star.

Howse and his REDS teammates will now head west to Kelowna, BC, where UBC Okanagan will host the 2024 U SPORTS Cross Country Championships on Nov. 9.
