STFX's Mackenzie Lothian and UNB's Colton Kammerer named AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Mackenzie Lothian from the STFX X-Women hockey team and Colton Kammerer from the UNB REDS men's hockey team have been named the Atlantic University Sport Athletes of the Week.

Mackenzie Lothian from the STFX X-Women hockey team is the Atlantic University Sport Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 23, 2025.

A second-year business from Alliston, Ont., Lothian played two strong games for the X-Women at the U SPORTS national championship in Elmira, Ont. this past weekend.

In Thursday’s quarterfinal game, Mackenzie scored the first STFX goal and assisted on the second one to give them a 2-0 lead, before falling 5-2 to Concordia.

She garnered player of the game honours for her strong defensive and offensive play, which continued in Saturday’s game—a 3-0 loss to Alberta in the consolation semifinal.

Lothian was also honoured as a U SPORTS second team all-Canadian at the championship banquet.

Colton Kammerer from the UNB REDS men’s hockey team is the Atlantic University Sport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 23, 2025.

A second-year defenceman from Brooklin, Ont., Kammerer was a significant presence on the ice during UNB’s 3-2 overtime loss to the host Ottawa Gee-Gees in the quarterfinals of the U SPORTS University Cup men’s hockey championship held this past weekend in Ottawa, Ont.

“We got a solid effort from our captain,” said REDS’ head coach Rob Hennigar. “He was all over the ice trying to get us a win at the national championship tournament. His leadership all season was exceptional.”
