Jenna Campbell of the UNB Reds women’s curling team is the Atlantic University Sport Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 11, 2024.

Campbell, a third-year skip from Fredericton, N.B., led her team to the program’s first AUS women’s curling title this past weekend at the four-day championship event hosted by the UPEI Panthers.

Campbell’s team went 4-2 in the round robin before beating Mount Allison 6-4 in Sunday morning’s semifinal matchup. In the gold medal game against the four-time defending champs from Dalhousie, the Arts & Science student pulled off steals of one in both the sixth and seventh ends before scoring one in the extra end to defeat the Tigers.

Owen Purcell of the Dalhousie University Tigers men’s curling team is the Atlantic University Sport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 11, 2024.

Purcell, a fifth-year Computer Science student, guided his Tigers to their sixth consecutive men’s curling title this past weekend at the AUS Curling Championships in Montague, PEI.

After dropping their first round robin game on Thursday morning, the skip from Upper Tantallon, N.S., won his next three before beating STFX 9-3 in Sunday morning’s semifinal.

Later that afternoon, Purcell secured the AUS title with a 6-5 decision over Saint Mary’s University in a game that saw him score a pair in the fifth end and steal one in the sixth to take 5-3 lead. When the Huskies tied the match in the seventh end, it gave Purcell’s Tigers the hammer in the final end, which he used to score one and win the match.
