Cape Breton's Alliyah Rowe and UNB's Brady Gilmour named AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Alliyah Rowe from the Cape Breton Capers women's soccer team and Brady Gilmour from the UNB REDS men's hockey team have been named the AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

A fourth-year arts student from Kitchener, Ont., Rowe set two new conference records this past weekend as the Capers swept their two matchups—topping the Memorial Sea-Hawks 1-0 on Friday and the Mount Allison Mounties 6-0 on Sunday.

With all six of Cape Breton’s goals in Sunday’s victory, Rowe now holds the AUS record for goals scored in a single game, as well as goals scored in a single season—with 19 so far and two regular season games remaining this season.

Her six-goal performance eclipsed the previous Atlantic conference record of five goals scored in a single game set in 2005 by former UPEI standout Tessa Roche. (Single game stats in AUS women’s soccer have been kept since 2000.)

The AUS single-season goal record was previously held by former Caper Karolyne Blain with 16 in 2014. (Single season stats in AUS women’s soccer have been kept since 1994.)

Brady Gilmour of the UNB REDS men’s hockey team is the Atlantic University Sport men’s athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 15, 2023.

An MBA student in his fourth year of eligibility from Grafton, Ont., Gilmour recorded four assists in Friday’s 8-0 home win over the Dalhousie Tigers and was named Player of the Game.

In Saturday’s 5-4 overtime win at home over the STFX X-Men, he scored a goal and added another assist.

Two weeks into the 2023-24 season, Gilmour sits tied for first in conference scoring (with teammate Kale McCallum) with eight points.
