Saint Mary's Demale and UPEI's Miller named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Shae Demale from the Saint Mary's Huskies women's hockey team and Elijah Miller from the UPEI Panthers men's basketball team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Shae Demale of the Saint Mary’s Huskies women’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport women’s athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 19, 2023.

A senior forward from Red Deer, Alta., Demale led the Huskies to a best 2-of-3 series win in the AUS quarterfinals versus Moncton.

In Game 1 on Tuesday, she was named Subway Player of the Game after finishing with a goal and two assists on the night in the Huskies’ 3-1 win.

She was named Saint Mary’s Player of the Game following their loss in Game 2, as the Aigles Bleues came out on top 4-2 to force a deciding Game 3.

In Game 3, Demale opened the scoring with the first goal of the game. She then went on to score the game-winning goal in double overtime to secure the Huskies place in the AUS semifinals.

Following quarter-final play, Demale leads the playoffs in points (6), goals (4) and plus/minus (+4).

Elijah Miller of the UPEI Panthers men’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport men’s athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 19, 2023.

A third-year business student and guard for UPEI from Rexdale, Ont., Miller led the Panthers to two weekend wins over the Memorial Sea-Hawks to wrap up regular season play.

In Friday’s 84-77 win, he finished just shy of a double double with 18 points and nine assists. He also added five rebounds and two steals.

Saturday, Miller led all scorers with 30 points to go along with nine assists, five rebounds, six steals and a block. He was named Subway Player of the Game for his efforts.

Miller also finished the season with 120 assists, setting a new UPEI school record and eclipsing the existing record of 118 set in the 1992-93 season by his coach Darrell Glenn.
