St. Thomas' Pietroski and Moncton's Montpetit named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

Caroline Pietroski of the St. Thomas Tommies women’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport women’s athlete of the week for the week ending October 9, 2022.

A third-year goaltender from Etobicoke, Ontario, Pietroski had an unforgettable season-opener on Friday night, posting a 49-save shutout before stopping all 13 shooters in a shootout to defeat the defending champion UNB REDS 1-0. The next day, she posted another big performance against the UPEI Panthers, making 35 saves to secure a 4-3 win. She was named Subway player of the game in both weekend match-ups.

The now 2-0 Tommies take on STFX next Friday when they host the X-Women.

Étienne Montpetit of the Université de Moncton men’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending October 9, 2022.

A fourth-year goaltender from Valleyville, Quebec, Montpetit led the Aigles Bleus to start the 2022-23 hockey season with two big wins. In Wednesday’s 4-2 victory over the UPEI Panthers, he saved 45 of 47 shots on goal and kept all five Panthers' power plays scoreless.

On Saturday night, Montpetit was at it again, contributing 39 saves to Moncton’s 4-1 win over the reigning AUS champion UNB REDS. He was chosen as the first star and Subway player of the game in both games.

Next up, the Aigles Bleus head to Wolfville to face the Acadia Axemen on Saturday.
