STU's Pietroski and UNB's Carson named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, NS) After helping their respective teams earn shootout wins last weekend in New Brunswick, STU's Caroline Pietroski and UNB's Macauley Carson are your Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 13, 2022.

FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Name: Caroline Pietroski
University: St. Thomas University
Sport: Women’s hockey
Hometown: Etobicoke, Ontario
Position: Goaltender
Year of Eligibility: Second
Academic program: Economics and Environment and Society

Caroline Pietroski of the St. Thomas Tommies women’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending February 13, 2022. 

A second-year goalie from Etobicoke, Ontario, Pietroski celebrated last Friday’s return to AUS competition by leading the Tommies to a 4-3 shootout win over the U SPORTS number 9 ranked UNB Reds. She stopped 37 of 40 shots on the road to victory, including a standout save at the end of overtime. Pietroski currently sits fifth in the AUS in both save percentage (.918) and goals-against average (2.28) while leading the league in minutes played.

Pietroski and the Tommies take the ice again on Sunday, February 20 when they host the SMU Huskies.

Macauley Carson of the UNB Reds men’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending February 13, 2022.

A second-year business student playing in his first Atlantic University Sport season, Carson played a critical role in Saturday’s 3-2 shootout win over Université de Moncton. He led UNB’s strong defensive effort against a feisty opponent and played “his best game of the season” according to Reds head coach Gardiner MacDougall. A forward hailing from Midhurst, Ontario, Carson had a team-leading five hits and played a key role in the Reds’ forecheck and penalty kill.

Carson and his teammates are back in action on Saturday February 19, when they host the UPEI Panthers.
