Dalhousie's Lorena Heubach and Matt Coolen named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Lorena Heubach and Matt Coolen from Dalhousie Tigers track and field have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Lorena Heubach of the Dalhousie Tigers women’s track and field team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 23, 2020.

A third-year engineering student from Granville Beach, N.S., Heubach topped the podium at the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships hosted this past weekend by the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alta.

She won her first-ever national gold medal in the women’s long jump event with a leap of 5.90, earning U SPORTS first team all-Canadian honours in the process.

Matt Coolen of the Dalhousie Tigers track and field team team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending March 8, 2020.

A fifth-year sprinter from Halifax, N.S., Coolen topped the podium at the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships hosted this past weekend by the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alta.

He ran an 8.02 to win national gold in the 60m hurdles on Friday, bettering his silver medal performance from last year. He set a new Dalhousie record in the process, topping his previous time of 8.04 seconds, and was named a U SPORTS first team all-Canadian.

He also earned a fifth-place finish in the 60m dash Thursday night.

University: Acadia University
Sport: Women’s Soccer
Position: Keeper
Hometown: Newmarket, Ont.
Year of eligibility: Fifth

Sarah Charnock of the U SPORTS No. 7-ranked Acadia Axewomen soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 22, 2019.

A fifth-year keeper from Newmarket, Ont., Charnock backstopped the Axewomen to two weekend wins over the Dalhousie Tigers and the U SPORTS No. 2-ranked Cape Breton Capers.

Acadia earned a 1-0 win over the Tigers Friday night in Wolfville, N.S. Charnock had two saves in the win.

She made another four saves Sunday as the Axewomen topped the two-time defending AUS champion Capers 2-1.  She was named Subway Player of the Game for her efforts.

Tane Caubo of the StFX X-Men soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 22, 2019.

A fourth-year arts student from London, England, Caubo had eight points in two games this weekend for the X-Men.

In StFX’s 6-1 win over the Mount Allison Mounties Saturday in Sackville, N.B., he scored a hat trick, including the game-winning goal. He was named Subway Player of the Game for his efforts.

Sunday in Fredericton, N.B., the X-Men tied the U SPORTS No. 8-ranked UNB Reds 3-3. Caubo had two goals and an assist in the draw.
