Dalhousie's Isabel Sarty and Acadia's Brett Liem named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Dalhousie Tigers swimmer Isabel Sarty and Acadia Axemen swimmer Brett Liem have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Year of eligibility: Third
Academic program: Neuroscience

Isabel Sarty of the Dalhousie Tigers women’s swim team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 9, 2020.

A third-year neuroscience student from Halifax, N.S., Sarty was named the AUS Swimmer of the Meet at this weekend’s Subway AUS Swimming Championships hosted by Dalhousie.

At Friday’s championship luncheon she was also named the AUS Swimmer of the Year for the second consecutive season.

At the conference championship, Sarty topped the podium in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle events—setting new AUS records twice in the 100m freestyle (heats and finals). She also set a new Dalhousie and Nova Scotia Senior record in the 200m freestyle.

She earned another three gold medals as a member of Dalhousie relay teams, setting two more conference records in the 4x100m freestyle and 4x100m medley relays.

The Tigers team win marked their 19th consecutive AUS women’s swimming conference title.

Brett Liem of the Acadia Axemen swim team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 9, 2020.

A fourth-year science student from Bedford, N.S., Liem was named AUS Swimmer of the Meet this past weekend at the Subway AUS Swimming Championships hosted by Dalhousie.

He topped the podium in the 50m and 100m freestyle events and captured silver in the 100m breaststroke and 50m butterfly races, leading the Axemen to their first AUS men’s swimming championship title since 1981.

As a member of the Axemen 4x100m medley relay team, he not only captured gold but set a new AUS record.

Name: Sarah Charnock
University: Acadia University
Sport: Women’s Soccer
Position: Keeper
Hometown: Newmarket, Ont.
Year of eligibility: Fifth

Sarah Charnock of the U SPORTS No. 7-ranked Acadia Axewomen soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 22, 2019.

A fifth-year keeper from Newmarket, Ont., Charnock backstopped the Axewomen to two weekend wins over the Dalhousie Tigers and the U SPORTS No. 2-ranked Cape Breton Capers.

Acadia earned a 1-0 win over the Tigers Friday night in Wolfville, N.S. Charnock had two saves in the win.

She made another four saves Sunday as the Axewomen topped the two-time defending AUS champion Capers 2-1.  She was named Subway Player of the Game for her efforts.

Tane Caubo of the StFX X-Men soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 22, 2019.

A fourth-year arts student from London, England, Caubo had eight points in two games this weekend for the X-Men.

In StFX’s 6-1 win over the Mount Allison Mounties Saturday in Sackville, N.B., he scored a hat trick, including the game-winning goal. He was named Subway Player of the Game for his efforts.

Sunday in Fredericton, N.B., the X-Men tied the U SPORTS No. 8-ranked UNB Reds 3-3. Caubo had two goals and an assist in the draw.
