Dalhousie's Jordan and Coolen named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Dalhousie Tigers track and field athletes Savanna Jordan and Matthew Coolen have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Name: Savanna Jordan
University: Dalhousie University
Sport: Women’s Track & Field
Hometown: Calgary, Alta.  
Year of eligibility: Second
Academic program: Kinesiology

Savanna Jordan of the Dalhousie Tigers women’s track and field team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 24, 2019.

A second-year kinesiology student from Calgary, Alta., Jordan led the Tigers to their 30th consecutive AUS women’s track and field championship title this past weekend.

She swept the women’s distance events, earning gold medals in the 3000m, 1500m, 1000m and 4x800m relay events. She also earned a silver medal as a member of the Tigers 4x400m relay team.

At the end of the two-day event, she was named the women’s championship MVP for her efforts after earning four gold and on silver medal.

Hometown: Halifax, N.S.
Year of eligibility: Fourth
Academic program: Engineering

Matthew Coolen of the Dalhousie Tigers men’s track and field team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 24, 2019.

A fourth-year engineering student from Halifax, Coolen led the Tigers to their 17th AUS conference championship in 18 years.

He won two gold medals in the 60m and 60 m hurdles and added a silver as a member of the Dalhousie 4x200m relay team. He broke his own AUS record in the 60m hurdles and is currently ranked first in the 60m race and second in 60m hurdles heading into the national championships in two weeks.

Coolen was named the men’s championship MVP and the men’s track athlete of the year.
