Dalhousie's Petricca and Memorial's Barker named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Fabiana Petricca from the Dalhousie Tigers women's hockey team and Nathan Barker from the Memorial Sea-Hawks men's basketball team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Fabiana Petricca of the Dalhousie Tigers women’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 5, 2019.

A first-year goaltender from Woodbridge, Ont. Petricca led the Tigers to a pair of wins last week.

She stood tall for the Tigers making 31 saves in the Tigers 4-2 win over the StFX X-Women Wednesday night in Antigonish. She also had an assist in the win and was named the second star of the game.

Two days later, she earned her first shutout of the season, stopping all 32 shots to lead the Tigers to a 1-0 win over the visiting UPEI Panthers. She was named Subway Player of the Game for her efforts.

Fabiana has made 800 saves during the regular season so far and has a .930 save percentage.

Nathan Barker of the Memorial Sea-Hawks men’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Feb. 5, 2019.

A third-year forward from Corner Brook, N.L., Barker had two big games this past weekend as the Sea-Hawks split their games versus the StFX X-Men.

Barker was named Subway Player of the Game Saturday after posting a game-high 31 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists and two steals in Memorial’s 82-79 win over StFX.

The Sea-Hawks fell to X-Men 88-81 Sunday. Barker had a game-high 34 points in the loss, along with six rebounds.

He now leads the conference in scoring, averaging 22.2 points per game.
