Reds win streak lives on in Week 3

The UNB Reds earned a weekend sweep in Week 3 of AUS women's hockey action, allowing them to record their fifth-straight victory of the season.

The Reds kicked things off in Sackville Friday night with a 5-0 shutout victory. Lillian George recorded a two-point performance with a goal and assist, earning a Player of the Game honours. Payton Hargreaves, Lindsey Smith (PP), Melanie Drost and Lauren Carter (PP) also found the back of the net for the visitors, with Cassie McCallum making 21 saves in net for the shutout.

UNB then scored four unanswered goals to edge the Saint Mary's Huskies 4-1 Saturday night in Fredericton. Katelyn Scott scored twice, and Mackenzie Keenan set up the tying and winning goals for UNB, allowing Keenan to be named Tim Horton's Player of the Game. Sydney Oitomen and Payton Hargreaves (PP) also recorded tallies, while Saint Mary's lone goal was a powerplay tally from Avery Cant.

The St. Thomas earned their third-straight win this weekend, starting things off with a thrilling 2-0 shutout win over the Dalhousie Tigers Friday night. Ekaterina Pelowich and Claire Nimegeers recorded goals in the win, while Katie Sweeney made 27 saves in net for the shutout.

The Tommies then came back to earn a 4-3 overtime win over the StFX X-Women Saturday night, ending the X-Women's four game win streak. Laura Brown scored the winning goal for the Tommies just 54 seconds into overtime, while Ekaterina Pelowich scored twice in the win with a short-handed and powerplay tally. Lauren Smith also recorded a power play goal in the win, while Ashlyn Garnett, Maggy Burbidge (PP) and Ireland McCloskey scored for the X-Women in regulation. Elizabeth Campbell made an impressive 47 saves in net to lead St. Thomas to victory, while Brooklyn Oakes made 17 saves on the StFX side.

The U Sports No.6 ranked X-Women were able to pick up three points this weekend, as they defeated the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues 3-1 Friday night. McKiya Mazur, Mackenzie Lothian (PP) and Kamdyn Switzer recorded goals in the win, with Lothian earning Player of the Game honours. Moncton's lone goal in the loss came from Emilie Lalancette.

The Dalhousie Tigers blanked the Aigles Bleues 4-0 Saturday night, with Olivia Esutace, Anika Curri (PP), Brooklyn Paisley and Emma Bishop all finding the net in the win. Grace Beer made an impressive 37 saves for the shutout victory.

The UPEI Panthers edged the Mounties 2-1 in overtime in Charlottetown Saturday night. Anjali Simms scored the game-winning goal for the Panthers to lead them to victory, while Sophie Bujold and Chelsea Krahenbil scored in regulation for UPEI and Mount Allison, respectively.

The Huskies blanked the Panthers 2-0 Sunday afternoon, with goals coming from Avery Cant (PP) and Keyara Nelson. Ridleigh Hansen made 24 stops in net for the shutout.
