Sea-Hawks earn third straight win

The Memorial Sea-Hawks earned their third straight win in Week 5 of AUS women's basketball action, playing to back-to-back wins over the Cape Breton Capers.

The Sea-Hawks played to a 78-72 win on Friday night, with Alana Short leading the way with 30 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Short was followed by Alyssa Jenkins, who went 6-14 from the field, scoring 14 points, and seven rebounds, and Hannah Green, who scored 14 points, eight rebounds, and an assist. The leading scorer for the Capers was Kiyara Letlow, who finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and one assist.

Memorial then earned an 83-77 win on Saturday, with Alana Short leading the way once again. Short finished with 23 points, adding 8 rebounds and two assists. Alyssa Jenkins scored 19 points in the win, adding six rebounds and five assists. Chermensa van la Parra led the Capers, going who went 12-15 from the field, scoring a game-high 33 points, two rebounds, and an assist. Van la Parra was followed by Kiyara Letlow, who scored 15 points, adding 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the weekend.

The league-leading UNB Reds earned a 93-51 win over the Dalhousie Tigers Saturday night as Jayda Veinot scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Reds. Kylee Speedy and Katie Butts both finished with 15 points in the win, with Butts adding seven rebounds. Kaitlyn Ferrier scored 23 to lead the Tigers, with teammate Simona Matic finishing the night with a dozen.

Saint Mary's guard Courtney Donaldson poured in a game-high 19 points, as the Huskies defeated the StFX X-Women 65-48 on Friday night at the Homburg Centre. Clara Gascoigne finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists on the night, while Alaina McMillan added 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the win. StFX's Shannon Neita had a double-double, with 13 points on 5-10 shooting plus 11 rebounds. Katie Upham provided eight points in the fourth quarter, alongside nine rebounds and three assists.

The Acadia Axewomen topped the UPEI Panthers 86-63 in Charlottetown on Saturday night. Samantha Russell had a game-high 28 points to lead the Acadia offence, one rebound off a double-double with nine on the night. Elizabeth Iseyemi finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double in nine games to open the season. With her night, she also moved back into the league lead in scoring, averaging 19.8 points per game. Devon Lawlor finished with a team-high 21 points for the Panthers in the loss.
