Reds extend streak to 16 games, while Huskies earn weekend sweep

In Week 8 of the AUS men's hockey season, the UNB Reds picked up another pair of wins, allowing them to remain undefeated on the season, while the Saint Mary's Huskies earned a sweep. 

The Reds started their weekend off with a win in their Teddy Bear Toss game Friday night. Justin Nolet and Cole MacKay each scored twice as the Reds beat the UPEI Panthers 6-1. Nolet's first proved to be the eventual game-winner. He was named Tim Horton's Player of the Game. Adam McCormick and Kale McCallum also found the back of the net, both recording powerplay tallies, while UPEI's Alexandre De Gagne scored the lone goal for the Panthers in the loss. 

Saturday night, Kale McCallum scored twice and Brady Gilmour added a goal and two assists as the Reds beat the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus 4-1. Griffen Outhouse delivered a stellar performance in goal for UNB stopping 32 shots and helping UNB extend their undefeated streak. Sean McGurn added a goal in the win, while Moncton's lone goal was a powerplay tally from Remy Anglehart. 

Saint Mary's captain Andrew Coxhead scored twice, including the overtime game-winning goal, as the Huskies defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 4-3 on Friday night. Declan McDonnell and Charlie Dafonseca also scored in the win, while Dalhousie goals came from Shaun Miller (PP) and Alec Belanger (2). Coxhead took home the player of the game award for the Huskies for his efforts, while Jeremy Helvig made 22 saves in the win, and Nicholas Chenard stopped 43 shots in the loss. 

The Huskies won their second straight game, defeating the StFX X-Men 5-3 in a fast-paced game Saturday evening at the Dauphinee Centre. Huskies forward Reid Valade scored two goals on the night, with Nathan Dunkley, Connor Olson, and Charlie Dafonseca adding to the Huskies tally. For StFX, Brendon Clavelle, Jacob Hudson and Charlie Callaghan all recorded powerplay goals in the loss. 

The X-Men split their games, as their penalty kill provided two goals in a 4-2 Friday night win over the Acadia Axemen. Jacob Hudson, Declan Smith, Conner Bruggen-Cate and Matthew Struthers all found the back of the net for the X-Men, while Bailey Peach and Brady Burns recorded goals for Acadia. 

The Axemen picked up two points Wednesday night, snapping a four-game losing skid with a 5-1 win over the visiting Tigers. Bailey Peach led the way with two goals on the night, with Nick Deakin-Poot, Ethan Ernst and Zack Jones also recording tallies. Dalhousie's lone goal came from Ryan Smith, while Thomas Couture made 26 stops in the win. 

The Panthers blanked the Aigles Bleus 7-0 in Charlottetown Tuesday night, with Daylon Groulx leading the way with a pair of powerplay goals. Michael Stubbs, Keiran Gallant, Elias Cohen, Noah Sedore (PP) and Cole Larkin also scored in the victory, while Joe Ranger made 28 saves for the shutout.
