Reds remain undefeated while X-Men earn fifth-straight win

In Week 5 of AUS men's hockey action, the UNB Reds earned their 10th straight win to remain undefeated on the season, while the StFX X-Men extended their win streak to five.

The U SPORTS No. 1 ranked UNB Reds rallied from two goals down to beat the Moncton Aigles Bleus 4-3 in overtime in an AUS men's hockey thriller at UNB's Aitken Centre, Friday night. Benjamin Corbeil scored UNB's winner 1:12 into extra time. Austen Keating scored twice for the Reds in the win, while Kade Landry added a tally in regulation. Moncton goals came from Thomas Pelletier, Jeremie Jacob and Nathael Roy.

The Reds then put forth a strong effort at both ends of the ice in a dominant 8-0 win over the UPEI Panthers on Saturday night in Charlottetown. Sean McGurn led the Reds with two goals while Benjamin Corbeil and Macauley Carson each had a goal and an assist. Emmet Sproule, Jason WIllms, Brady Gilmour and Isaac Nurse also recorded tallies in the win, while Griffen Outhouse earned a shutout in net for the visitors.

The X-Men topped the Acadia Axemen 4-1 on Friday night in Wolfville. Liam Hawel scored a short-handed and powerplay goal, with Declan Smith and Josh Nelson also adding powerplay tallies in the win. Brady Burns scored the lone goal for Acadia in the loss, while Joseph Raaymakers made 32 stops in the win. 

StFX then made it five wins in a row with a 4-3 victory over the Saint Mary's Huskies Saturday night in Antigonish. Lucas Pfeil had 45 saves in the StFX net and Liam Hawel scored two goals to help lead the home squad to victory. Matthew Struthers and Conner Bruggen-Cate also found the back of the net for StFX in the win, while Nathan Dunkley, Ben Allison and Reid Valade all scored for Saint Mary's in the loss.

The Huskies split their weekend games, snapping a five-game losing streak as they defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 5-0 on Friday night. Nathan Dunkley was named Player of the Game with two goals and one assist, while teammates Bradey Johnson (one goal, two assists), Charlie Dafonseca (one goal, one assist) and Andrew Coxhead (two assists) also recorded multi-point nights. Dennis Busby also recorded a tally in the win, while Jeremy Helvig made 19 saves for the shutout. 

The UPEI Panthers scored three times on the power play to earn a 5-2 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus on Wednesday night, snapping the Aigles Bleus six-game winning streak. UPEI goals came from Kurtis Henry (PP), Kaleb Pearson, Ben McFarlane (2) and Noah Sedore (PP), while Thomas Pelletier (PP) and Denis Toner found the back of the net for Moncton in the loss. 

The Acadia Axemen ended their losing streak on Saturday night, picking up a convincing 6-3 win over the Dalhousie Tigers, despite trailing multiple times throughout the night. Liam Kidney and Brady Burns scored twice for the Axemen, with Bailey Peach and Hudson Wilson adding tallies in the win. Alec Belanger, Derek Gentile and Zak Smith all recorded goals for Dalhousie in the loss.
