Reds remain undefeated after two weeks of play

In Week 2 of AUS men's hockey action, the UNB Reds kept their win streak alive, while the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus and Acadia Axemen also picked up four points with a weekend sweep.

The UNB Reds got off to an impressive start Friday night with three first-period goals en route to an 8-0 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers. Brady Gilmour led the way with four assists, earning the Tim Hortons Player of the Game honours. Goals in the win came from Adam McCormick, Austen Keating, Cody Morgan (2), Michael Petizian, Benjamin Corbeil (PP), Cole MacKay and Emmett Sproule. Griffen Outhouse made 14 stops for the Reds, earning the shutout. 

Saturday night, Michael Petizian played the hero as he scored the overtime winner to help lead the Reds to a 5-4 overtime victory over the StFX X-Men. Austen Keating, Sean McGurn, Kale McCallum and Brady Gilmour found the back of the net for UNB in regulation, with StFX tallies coming from Mark Woolley, Josh Nelson (PP), Jacob Hudson and Liam Hawel. Keating was named Tim Hortons Player of the Game for the Reds with a goal and two assists on the night. Joseph Raaymakers made an impressive 45 saves in net for the X-Men, with Samuel Richard making 16 stops in the win.

The Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus earned a weekend sweep, first earning a 5-2 win over the X-Men Friday night. Freshman Jeremy Lapointe scored twice and added an assist to lead the Aigles Bleus to their first win of the season. Alex Arsenault, Jeremy Michel and Nathael Roy also recorded tallies in the win, while Raegan Wiles (PP) and Matthew Philip scored for StFX in the loss.  

Saturday, Moncton held on to earn a 4-3 win over the Tigers. Jeremy Michel led the way for the Aigles Bleus with two goals on the night, with teammates Jeremy Lapointe and Samuel Gullbault adding tallies in the win. Jackson van de Leest, Joseph Serpa and Evan MacKinnon found the back of the net for Dalhousie in the loss.

The Acadia Axemen also recorded a four-point weekend, kicking things off with a 9-2 win over the UPEI Panthers. Acadia scored three goals in each period, with Ethan Ernst finishing as the only two-goal scorer of the night. Peyton Hoyt, Cam Whynot, Liam Kidney, Cole Nagy, Corson Hopwo (PP), Tyler Deline (PP) and Nick Deakin-Poot all secured goals in the win, while Kurtis Henry and Noah Sedore scored for UPEI in the loss. 

Saturday, the Axemen doubled the Saint Mary's Huskies 4-2, handing them their first loss of the season. Axemen forward Zack Jones was named Player of the Game with a goal and an assist on the night. Cole Nagy, Nick Deakin-Poot and Bren Sellan (PP) also recorded goals in the win, with Saint Mary's goals coming from Jaxon Bellamy and Charlie Dafonseca. 

Wednesday night, the Huskies penalty kill came up big, as they scored two shorthanded goals and goaltender Jeremy Helvig stopped 17 shots in a 3-0 win over the Panthers. The shorthanded tallies came from Jake Uberti and Ben Boyd, while Declan McDonnell buried an empty netter to secure the win.
