Sea-Hawks move into first in men's basketball standings

In Week 5 of AUS men's basketball action, the Memorial Sea-Hawks picked up their fifth win in six games, allowing them to climb into first place.

The Sea-Hawks hosted the Cape Breton Capers in St. John's this weekend, where the Capers took the first of two games with a 90-86 win, snapping the Sea-Hawks' four-game win streak. Shakael Pryce led the Capers with 29 points, adding nine rebounds and an assist. Pryce was followed by Tyson Cato, who scored 18 points, adding seven rebounds, and an assist. Nicholas Tuff led the Sea-Hawks with 23 points, six rebounds, and an assist in the loss.

Memorial bounced back Saturday night, edging the Capers 98-83. Emanuel Ring led the Sea-Hawks with a game-high 38 points, while adding four rebounds and three assists. Ring was followed by Flynn Boardman-Raffet who finished with 23 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Mitchell Mersereau scored 17 points for Cape Breton, adding eight rebounds, and an assist, while Stefan Anisko finished with 14 points, three rebounds and an assist in the loss.

StFX forward Deon Ejim poured in a 24-point, 12-rebound double-double as the StFXX-Men defeated the Saint Mary's Huskies 84-75 at the Homburg Centre on Friday night. Player of the Game, Ejim, led the X-Men with 24 points on 11-20 shooting, and eight of his 12 rebounds were on the offensive glass, while Marcus Upshaw (four points, four rebounds, five assists, and two steals) and Matt Pennell (11 points on 3-7 3PT, seven rebounds, and three assists) combined for 48 inspired minutes of guard play off the X-Men bench. Huskies guard Marc-Denault Gabriel stuffed the stat sheet with 27 points on 11-17 shooting, 16 rebounds, six steals, and three assists.

The UPEI Panthers earned a 76-60 win over the visiting Acadia Axemen Saturday night. Kamari Scott finished with a game-high 22 points, adding seven rebounds, five assists and one block, while Jace Colley finished close behind with 19 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and a steal and assist. For Acadia, Glen Cox had a team-high 14 points, adding three rebounds and three assists in the loss. 

The UNB REDS scored a strong road win Saturday night, beating the Dalhousie Tigers 90-79. Norm Burry led the way for the UNB Reds with a 22-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Brandon Laryea added 17 points and recorded two steals and a block in the win. In the loss, Malcolm Christie had an incredible 51-point night, adding two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
