(SACKVILLE, NB) In the first game of a soccer double-header between Mount Allison and the visiting CBU Capers, it was the women's Capers who would come away with a 1-0 win.
For much of the first half it was CBU that controlled possession and moved the ball well but both teams did not generate many quality chances. Mounties keeper Sophie Austin (Kanata, ON) was forced to make two good saves in the 41st and 43rd minute to keep this game scoreless after the first half.
It was all CBU to start the second half and they seemed to go up by one in the 58th minute before the head referee blew his whistle after a Capers player came through the back of a Mounties defender.
Another great save by Austin came a few moments later off the head of joint goal scoring AUS leader Alliyah Rowe (Kitchener, ON). The offensive pressure by the Capers would eventually come to fruition as a shot from Paige Allaby (Rothesay, NB) found its way in the net to give the visiting team a 1-0 lead with less than ten minutes to play.
CBU seemed poised to add to their lead as Austin was forced into two tough situations late in extra time. The Mounties last ditch efforts would fall short.
CBU (6-1-0) will return home and welcome St. FX on October 14 for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
Mount Allison (0-6-1) will relish some extra days off as they travel to play Acadia on October 14, game is at 5 p.m.
