Panthers get the better of the Aigles Bleus 5-2

MONCTON, NB—The University of Prince Edward Island Panthers scored three times on the power play to earn a 5-2 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus on Wednesday at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game in front of nearly 600 spectators.

The Aigles Bleus 6-game winning streak (6-3-0-0=12pts, 2nd position) was exhausted and the Panthers (3-6-0-0=6pts, 6th position) took advantage of their time in Moncton to assert themselves, even though Moncton led 29-27 in shots on goal. Panthers goalkeeper Jonah Capriotti saved the day a few times and defended his territory well throughout the game.  

It didn't take long for the Panthers to make their presence felt with the only goal of the first period by Kurtis Henry at 5:10 on the power play. Kaleb Pearson made it 2-0 in the first minute of the second period before Thomas Pelletier, on the power play, put the Aigles Bleus on the board a minute later. Ben MacFarlane's goal made it 3-1 at 8:07 of the second period, hurting the home team who was still looking to tie the game. Denis Toner cut the deficit to one goal at 9:43 and the second ended 3-2 in favour of the visitors. Two power-play goals in the third by Ben MacFarlane with his second of the game at 9:09 and Noah Sedore 4 minutes later sealed the game. Panthers McFarlane and Henry were named the first and second stars and Denis Toner the third. 

Olivier Adam was credited with the loss. Moncton had one goal on 4 power play chances compared to 3-for-8 for the Panthers. The game was fast paced with lots of plays in front of both nets. 

Moncton will face the UNB Reds in Fredericton on Friday and the Panthers host the Reds on Saturday.
