Huskies sweep Axewomen to advance to final series versus Tigers

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Second-year left side, Olivia Bell (La Have, N.S.) paced the Huskies with 11 points to lead her team to a 3-0 win over the visiting Acadia Axewomen on Friday.

With the win, the Huskies completed a two-game sweep in the Subway AUS Women's Volleyball Playoffs best-of-three semifinal series.  

Acadia's outside hitter Lucy Glen-Carter (Toronto, Ont.) paced the Axewomen with 12.5 points and added 12 digs. 

The Huskies won the first set 25-15, after Acadia took the first two points. The Huskies continued to climb back and lead by 10-4 at one point. As the set progressed, Saint Mary's steadily increased their lead.  

The second set was tighter which saw both teams go back and forth. Set scores were tied 9-9, but eventually the Huskies pulled away and won the set 25-17.  

The third set was much closer seeing teams trade points. With the play going back and forth, the score was tied 12 and the continued to be back and forth. Eventually Saint Mary's came out on top and won the set 25-21.  

Saint Mary's kill percentage was .182 compared to Acadia's .057. Saint Mary's had 52 digs, and Acadia 43.  

Fifth-year setter Emilla Conlon earned Subway Player of the Game honours with 29 assists on the night.   

With the win, the Huskies move onto the best-of-three final series versus the top-seeded Dalhousie Tigers. The series begins Thursday at Dalplex
