After collecting a draw and a win while on the road this weekend, the Dalhousie Tigers remain at the top of the AUS women's soccer standings with an 8-0-3 record.
The Tigers and STFX X-Women played to a scoreless draw Friday evening in Antigonish with STFX's Jordyn Pratt (Calgary, AB) making four saves in the game while Tigers keeper Annabel Gravely (Toronto, ON) had six. The Subway player of the game for Dalhousie was midfielder Hannah Firstbrook (Nepean, ON) who had a strong performance at centreback.
With the sides deadlocked 1-1, in the 78th minute, Subway player of the game Chloe Richardson (Calgary, AB) scored the game-winner for the Tigers with a highlight-reel individual effort. After winning a foot race with a Caper defender, she knifed her way into the box, avoiding CBU keeper Haley Kardas (Halifax, NS) and then ripping a left-footed blast into the gaping net. Aliyah Rowe (Kitchener, ON) and Emily Smith (Orleans, ON) also scored for the Capers and Tigers respectively to tie the game in the first half.
Kardas made six saves for the Capers, while Gravely had five stops for the Tigers.
Earlier in the week, STFX (6-3-1) handed the Saint Mary's Huskies (5-4-2) a 6-0 loss in Halifax, with the X-Women's Emma Steen (Stittsville, ON) being named Subway player of the game for her two goals and assist. STFX goalkeeper Jordyn Pratt made seven saves for a clean sheet. Saint Mary's went on to defeat the UNB REDS on Friday with a 2-0 final score.
The Acadia Axewomen (8-2-1) had two wins at home over the weekend, toppling Moncton 7-1 on Friday night and then edging past the UNB REDS 2-1 the next day. The Axewomen's Mya Harnish (Halifax, NS) was named player of the game on Friday while Rebecca LeBlanc (Sydney, NS) earned the honour on Saturday with her first goal of the season—the game-winner.
Over in St. John's, the Memorial Sea-Hawks (4-5-2) celebrated two wins at their last home games of the season and now sit in sixth place in the AUS standings. The Sea-Hawks came out on top in a hard-fought battle with the visiting UPEI Panthers on Friday 1-0 and collected a more authoritative 4-0 victory over the Panthers the next day. Fifth-year keeper Sydney Walsh (St. John's, NL) recorded both shutouts for Memorial.
In Moncton, the Mount Allison Mounties (2-7-1) got their second win over the season over the Aigles Bleues, with the Mounties' Talia Friesen earning Subway player of the game status in the 2-0 victory.
