Axewomen finish women's soccer undefeated

The Acadia Axewomen and Cape Breton Capers have clinched first round byes in the AUS women's soccer playoffs as the regular season comes to an end.

Acadia finished the season undefeated with a 9-0-3 record for 30 points, while the Capers finished close behind with a 9-2-1 record for 28 points. 

The StFX X-Women, Dalhousie Tigers, UNB Reds and Memorial Sea-Hawks all round out the rest of the clinched playoff spots. 

The Axewomen finished off their season against the X-Women Friday evening, where they played to a scoreless draw. StFX goaltender Alyssa Spridgeon finished the night with seven saves while Acadia's Sarah Charnock made two. 

The Capers rounded out the regular season with two games, visiting the Reds and the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues. The Capers played to a 1-1 draw against the Reds Friday night, with tallies coming from UNB's Sylvie Fecteau and Cape Breton's MacKenna King

Cape Breton then earned a 4-1 win against the Aigles Bleues, with Alliyah Rowe earning a hattrick in the victory. Rowe finished with a league-high 14 goals on the season. Rachel Leck also added a tally for Cape Breton in the win, with Moncton's lone goal coming from Madelaine LeBlanc.

The Tigers visited the Sea-Hawks in St. John's for back-to-back games this weekend, playing to a 1-1 draw Friday evening and a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon. Goals Friday night came from Memorial's Stacey Hanlon and Dalhousie's Olivia MacIntyre

The Saint Mary's Huskies topped the Aigles Bleues Friday night 2-1 with Genelle Morash and Hanna Dorey finding the back of the net in the win. Natalie Fleming got on the board for the Aigles Bleues in the loss. 

The Mount Allison Mounties recorded their first victory of the season in their last game of the season Saturday afternoon. Morgan Lundin scored the lone goal of the game for the Mounties.

The 2019 Subway AUS Women's Soccer Championship will be hosted by Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia and take place from Thursday, October 31st until Sunday, November 3rd. The action will get underway Thursday as the Reds face the Tigers and the Sea-Hawks take on the X-Women. For more information, click here
