Tigers Win Three Straight to Climb Women's Soccer Standings

The Dalhousie Tigers earned back-to-back weekend wins as they topped the UNB Reds and UPEI Panthers, earning their third straight win to climb the AUS women's soccer standings.

The Tigers hosted the Reds Friday night in Halifax, playing to a 2-1 victory. Rachelle Lalande and Zoe Brown found the back of the net for the Tigers with Danika Lefebvre earning a tally for the Reds at the 87:20 mark, but it would not be enough as the Tigers held on for the victory at home.

The Tigers then blanked the UPEI Panthers Sunday afternoon 1-0 in Charlottetown. Lalande scored the lone goal in the match for her fourth tally of the season. 

Despite their loss Sunday, the UPEI Panthers split their weekend games with a 2-0 win over the Mount Allison Mounties in Sackville Friday. Madison Hurley and Caitlyn McCloskey scored a goal each, with Julie Ann Reid making six saves in the win.

The Acadia Axewomen travelled to St. John's to take on the Memorial Sea-Hawks in back-to-back games this weekend. The Axewomen earned a 2-0 shutout victory Saturday afternoon with goals coming from Jenna Boudreau and Grace Longley. Despite the loss, Memorial goaltender Sydney Walsh made an impressive 11 saves.

The Axewomen and Sea-Hawks then played to a 0-0 draw Sunday afternoon. Sarah Charnock made three saves for Acadia, while Walsh made six saves for Memorial. The Axewomen are now 6-0-1 on the season, with the Sea-Hawks sitting with a 4-2-2 record. 

The StFX X-Women blanked the Saint Mary's Huskies 5-0 in Antigonish Friday night. Amanda Smith earned a hattrick in the win, with teammates Brittany Pigat and Melanie Belong also getting on the board. 

The Cape Breton Capers played just one game this weekend, earning a huge 6-1 victory over the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues to extend their record to 6-1. Goals for the Capers came from MacKenna King, Alliyah Rowe (2), Erin Freeman, Caleigh MacPherson and Ceira Disipio, with Catherine Dupuis scoring the lone goal for the Aigles Bleues.

The Aigles Bleues then bounced back to earn a point on the weekend as they played to a 0-0 draw against the X-Women Sunday afternoon. 

The Reds visited the Huskies Saturday afternoon, earning a 3-0 victory. Danika Lefebvre led the Reds with two tallies with Abby Sullivan also finding the back of the net in the win.
