Aigles Bleues earn fourth-straight win, while Panthers end Reds winning streak

In Week 8 of the AUS women's hockey season, the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues earned back-to-back wins for their fourth straight victory, while the UPEI Panthers edged the UNB Reds, ending their 13-game winning streak.

The Aigles Bleues blanked the St. Thomas Tommies 5-0 in Fredericton Wednesday night. Subway player of the game Maritza Labrie recorded a powerplay tally in the win, with Shani Rossignol, Janie Caissie, Alexia Desforges and Clemence Dumesnil (PP) also found the back of the net in the win. Goaltender Annick Boudreau turned away 18 shots for the shutout win.

Then, Friday night, the Aigles Bleues doubled the Mount Allison Mounties 4-2 in Moncton. Lianne Desforges, Erica Plourde, Alexia Desforges and Isadora Quirion all recorded tallies in the victory, while Jenna Miller and Chelsea Krahenbil scored for the Mounties in the loss.

The UPEI Panthers upset the U SPORTS No. 1 UNB Reds 3-0 Wednesday evening, ending the Reds 13-game win streak. Sarah Forsythe made 26 saves to lead the Panthers in a 3-0 win, earning Subway Player of the Game honours. Lexie Murphy scored twice in the win, while McKinley Nelson recorded a shorthanded tally in the win for UPEI.

The Reds bounced back Friday, blanking the St. Thomas Tommies 4-0 in Fredericton. Lauren Carter's two goals in the first 11 minutes would propel the Reds' early surge to a win, en route to her Subway Player of the Game honours. Payton Hargreaves and Ashley Stratton each had a goal while Frederike Cyr and Lillian George had two assists. Reds' netminder Kendra Woodland posted her third shutout win of the season with 16 saves. Caroline Pietroski made 33 saves on 37 shots for the Tommies.

The U SPORTS No. 5 ranked StFX X-Women extended their winning streak to three with a 4-0 win over the Dalhousie Tigers on Wednesday evening at the Keating Centre. StFX forward Maggy Burbidge added to her U SPORTS leading point tally, picking up three assists and a goal on the night and earning Subway player of the game honours. Chloe Vukosa added two goals on the night, with Lea MacLeod adding a tally, and Amaya Giraudier making 24 saves in net for the shutout.

Friday, the Saint Mary's Huskies beat their cross-town rivals, the Dalhousie Tigers, 3-2 in a shootout in Halifax. Kara MacLean scored twice in regulation for the Huskies, with Dalhousie goals coming from Natasha Falk and Olivia Eustace (PP). Extra shooters were needed in the shootout until Maddy Corbett was able to beat Maggie Baxter in the seventh round to win it 3-2. Kara McLean took home the Subway player of the game hours for her two-goal effort for the Huskies.

The Huskies then hosted the Mounties in Halifax Saturday evening, where the visitors skated to a 1-0 overtime win. After a scoreless three periods, the game headed to overtime. Midway through the overtime period, a Huskies line change allowed the Mounties on a 3-on-0 breakaway. Sophie Scully turned away the initial shot, but on the ensuing rebound, Mounties defenceman Island Bernard-Docker made no mistake in netting a pass from Rachael Carson to earn her first goal of the season and the win for the Mounties. Mounties goaltender Bianca Zak was named Subway Player of the Game, stopping 64 shots for the visitors, while Huskies goaltender Sophie Scully made 13 saves in the loss.
