Sea-Hawks record eight-point weekend

The Memorial Sea-Hawks visited the StFX X-Women in Antigonish this weekend, earning back-to-back victories to secure eight points to now sit tied atop the standings.

Saturday night, the Sea-Hawks edged the X-Women 80-57 as Alana Short finished with a game-high 27 points to earn Subway Player of the Game honours. She also had six rebounds, a pair of assists and a steal and block on the night. Rebecka Ekstrom and Gabrielle Roche each scored 12 points for the Sea-Hawks, while Ines Salat Margarit had a double-double night with 11 points and 10 rebounds. X-Women guard Katie Upham was the StFX player of the game, netting 10 points for the home team. Ekaterina Karchevskaya scored 14 points and had seven rebounds for StFX, while Aliyah Fraser and Melina Collins each contributed nine points apiece.

Sunday afternoon, the Sea-Hawks edged the X-Women 103-67, as Alana Short led the way once again for the visitors. Short finished with 25 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, and Ines Salat Margarit with 24 points, 12 of which came from three-point land, and eight rebounds. StFX's Melina Collins led all scorers with 30 points, including four three-pointers, while Jaya D'Souza knocked down 11 points, going 3-4 from beyond the arc.

The Saint Mary's Huskies, who also sit atop the standings with 14 points, picked up four points this weekend with a win over the Cape Breton Capers. Friday night, the Huskies were led by a stellar performance from Lucina Beaumont as the visiting Huskies scored a 90-76 in Sydney. Beaumont – the Subway player of the game – scored a game-high 29 points, while adding nine rebounds and two assists. Alaina McMillan added 17 points, while Widmeyer chipped in 13, six rebounds, four assists, one steal and one blocked shot. For the Capers, Kiyara Letlow fashioned another monster double-double – 20 points and a game-best 16 rebounds. The Huskies now have a 6-1 record on the season.

Saturday night, Lauren Rainford scored a game-high 20 points to lead the UPEI Panthers to a 69-58 win over the UNB Reds in a critical four-point game. Karla Yepez Villamorin added 18 points and seven rebounds for the Panthers in the victory. For the Reds, Kylee Speedy finished with 19 points off the bench, while Katie Butts recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
