Capers top Panthers to finish at top of AUS Standings

In the final weekend of the regular season, the Cape Breton Capers played to a 80-70 victory over the UPEI Panthers to finish at the top of the AUS women's basketball standings. In her last home game of her career, Hannah Brown finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double. Her 28 points were enough to break the CBU single-season scoring record, and her 12 rebounds were enough to set new CBU and AUS single-season rebounding records. Jenna Mae Ellsworth led the Panthers in points with 26.

The Dalhousie Tigers and Memorial Sea-Hawks split their weekend games in St. John's with the Sea-Hawks earning the first win on Friday night as they topped the Tigers 87-76. Sydney Stewart led the Sea-Hawks in the win with a game-high 23 points.

Dalhousie bounced back on Saturday evening as they edged Memorial 66-64, with Sophie Gaube earning Subway Player of the Game commednations after posting a game-high 22 points.

The UNB Reds finished the regular season with a pair of wins as they hosted the Saint Mary's Huskies and the Acadia Axewomen. The Reds held off the Huskies for a 62-58 win on Friday, which saw first-year UNB point guard Marley Curwin be named Subway Player of the Game. Mikaela Dodig led the Reds in scoring with 18 points and four rebounds.

On Saturday, the Reds topped the Axewomen 62-53, with Jane Boyle earning Subway Player of the Game honours after scoring 13 points and grabbing five rebounds.

The Cape Breton Capers, UPEI Panthers, Acadia Axewomen, UNB Reds, Memorial Sea-Hawks, and Dalhousie Tigers, have advanced to the Subway AUS Women's Basketball Championships hosted by Atlantic University Sport at the Scotiabank Centre from March 1-3.

The Capers and Panthers both receive a first round bye, while the action gets started on Friday evening as the Sea-Hawks face the Reds and the Tigers take on the Axewomen.
