Capers earn seventh straight win

With a pair of wins over the StFX X-Women, the Cape Breton Capers have extended their win streak to seven to clinch a first round bye in the Subway AUS Women's Basketball Championships.

The Capers hosted the X-Women on Thursday night in Sydney, where Cape Breton set a new school record by scoring 104 points in their 104-76 victory. AUS leading scorer Hannah Brown posted a game-high 29 points and added 13 rebounds for the double-double.

Cape Breton then travelled to Antigonish on Saturday evening, where the Capers upset the X-Women again with a 71-52 win. Madison Munroe earned Subway Player of the Game honours as she contributed 10 points and 6 rebounds in the win. Brown led all scorers in the game with 28 points and added a huge 19 rebounds.

The UPEI Panthers also earned a pair of wins this weekend, extending their win streak to four. The Panthers hosted the Acadia Axewomen in back-to-back games, which saw UPEI walk away with a 76-66 win on Friday and a 77-65 victory on Saturday night. 

The Dalhousie Tigers hosted the UNB Reds in back-to-back games this weekend, which resulted in both teams earning a victory. Friday evening, the Tigers played to a 76-72 victory to secure their spot in the AUS Women's Basketball Championships. Mikaela Dodig led the scoring for the Reds in the loss, finishing with a game-high 24 points, while Robertha Charles finished with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the Tigers.

On Saturday, the Reds bounced back with a 78-59 victory, with Grace Simpson earning the Subway Player of the Game title, finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

The Memorial Sea-Hawks and Saint Mary's Huskies split their games this weekend, with the Sea-Hawks earning an 80-71 win on Saturday evening, and the Huskies taking a 65-54 victory on Sunday afternoon.
