Tigers lead the pack following Day 1 of Subway AUS Track and Field Championships

(MONCTON, N.B.) The Dalhousie Tigers women's and men's track and field teams sit in first place heading into Day 2 of the Subway AUS Track and Field Championships being hosted by the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus Feb. 22 and 23. 

On the women's side, the Tigers finished Day 1 with 71 points, closely followed by the StFX X-Women in second with 60 points. The UNB Reds sit third with 39 points, while the host Aigles Bleues sit fourth with 25 points. 

On the men's side, the first-place Tigers amassed 57 points on Day 1. The UNB Reds sit second with 43 points, while the StFX X-Men follow in third with 37 points. The Huskies sit in fourth with 23 points, while the host Aigles Bleus are currently fifth in team points on the men's side with 14 points.

In the women's 300m sprint, StFX's Allie Flower claimed gold in a time of 40.73. Dalhousie's Maya Reynolds captured silver in 41.53, while Moncton's Véronique Omalosanga took to the podium earning bronze with a time of 41.74.

In the women's 1000m, Tigers Savanna Jordan and Sophie Watts earned gold and bronze, respectively. StFX's Jane Hergett took home the silver. Dalhousie's Jordan claimed yet another gold in the women's 3000m. Silver and bronze went to X-Women Zoe Johnston and Rachel MacDougall.

The Tigers also captured gold in the women's 4x800m relay. The X-Women earned silver and the Axewomen claimed bronze. 

Memorial's Jennifer Boland earned a gold medal for the Sea-Hawks in the women's 60m hurdles event in a time of 9.19. StFX's Megan Graham won silver (9.27) and Dalhousie's Olivia Hill captured bronze (9.31).

Dalhousie's Lorena Heubach added to the Tigers' medal count with a gold in the women's high jump. UNB's Sydney MacDonald earned silver and StFX's Alanna Deakin claimed bronze. 

The UNB Reds dominated the women's triple jump event, with Lexie Shannon (11.70m), Victoria LeBlanc (11.43m) and Erin McCavour (11.08m) winning gold, silver and bronze, respectively. 

Moncton's Kyla Hughes captured gold in the women's shot put event. Dalhousie's Brooklynn Rutherford and Temi Toba-Oluboka claimed silver and bronze. 

The Tigers' Heubach was the winner of the women's pentathlon. UNB's Sydney MacDonald won silver and StFX's Olivia Crewe earned bronze. 

In the men's 300m sprint, Dalhousie's Mike van der Poel (35.29) and Josh Lunda (35.49) won gold and silver respectively, while UNB's Braden Harrison claimed bronze (36.86). 

Hudson Grimshaw-Surette from the Tigers won a gold medal in the men's 1000m run. Saint Mary's Huskies Andrew Peverill and Jonathan Peverill finished took home silver and bronze, respectively.

StFX's Angus Rawling was the winner of the men's 3000m run. UNB's Michael Colford earned silver. Dalhousie's James Cromack won bronze. 

Dalhousie's Matt Coolen broke his own AUS record of 8.34 in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.21 to capture gold. UNB's Eric Hughes earned silver with a time of 8.69 and StFX's Timothy Brennan won bronze with a time of 8.81.

The Saint Mary's Huskies took home gold in the men's 4x800m relay. The Tigers claimed silver and the X-Men captured bronze. 

Moncton's Alain Doucet and Jean-Luc Bastarache earned gold and silver finishes in the men's pole vault. UNB's Ryan Olson earned bronze. 

UNB's Brandon Cleghord won gold for the Reds in the men's long jump (6.62m). StFX's Kirishnia Cooper claimed silver (6.41m) and Dalhousie's Kaelan Schmidt won bronze (6.20m).

The Reds claimed another gold in the men's shot put with Jarod Manuel winning the event with a distance of 15.04m. Dalhousie's Andre Hendrix was the silver medallist (14.94m) and StFX's Samuel Gan claimed bronze (13.14m).
