Four of six playoff spots now clinched in AUS men's soccer

The UNB Reds extended their win streak to four this weekend with wins over the Mount Allison Mounties and Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus, allowing them to secure an AUS men's soccer playoff spot.

The Reds came out hot Friday night, handing the Mounties a 7-2 loss in Sackville. Tristan Nkoghe led the Reds with two goals, with teammates Joe Hamilton, Keji Adeniyi, Ben Gorringe, Mario Maldonaldo and Grant Takacs also earning tallies in the victory. Mount Allison's Brogan Skinner and Tevin Lewis were credited for goals in the loss.

UNB then topped the Aigles Bleus 1-0 Sunday afternoon. Joe Hamilton broke open a highly defensive game in the 62nd minute to give the Reds the victory. His lone goal allowed him to receive Player of the Game honours.

The top two teams in the AUS men's soccer standings faced off Friday evening, as the Cape Breton Capers hosted the StFX X-Men in Sydney. Caelan Budhoo led the Capers to a 3-1 victory, netting two goals to earn Subway Player of the Game honours. Cory Bent also found the back of the net in the win, while Nick Aquino scored StFX's lone goal in the match.

A win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks Saturday evening allowed the Capers to remain undefeated with a 9-0-1 record on the season. The Capers blanked the Sea-Hawks 1-0 in Sydney, with a late goal from Marcus Campanile allowing Cape Breton to walk away with the victory.

Despite their loss to the Capers Friday, the X-Men bounced back to earn a 2-0 victory over the Sea-Hawks Sunday. Tane Caubo and Logan Harrington were credited with tallies in the win.

The Saint Mary's Huskies blanked the Acadia Axemen 2-0 Friday evening in Wolfville. Cian Tousignant-Osiadhail and Kwaku Korankye earned tallies in the match with Jensen Brown making two saves in the shutout win.

They then went on to host the UPEI Panthers Saturday night, where they played to a 2-2 draw. James Spence and Tyler Dorey found the back of the net for the Huskies, while Ignacio Sanchez scored twice for the Panthers.

The Aigles Bleus hosted the Axemen Saturday, blanking them 2-0 with Jean-Michel Dako and Heritier Masimengo both getting on the board for Moncton. Andre Leblanc made six saves to earn the shutout.

The Dalhousie Tigers put themselves into fourth in the standings with a 3-0 win over the Mounties Sunday afternoon. Goals in the win came from Quinn Park, Gracious Kasheke and Skyler Bryant.

With just one week of the regular season remaining, the Capers, X-Men, Reds and Tigers have all secured playoff positions.
