After dropping their opening game of the season, the Acadia Axemen have won four straight to lead the AUS men's hockey standings with a 4-1 record.
The Axemen visited the Dalhousie Tigers in Halifax Friday evening, where Acadia came out on top with a 4-1 victory. Dalhousie's Connor Welsh kicked off the scoring early into the first to put the Tigers ahead, however the Axemen scored four unanswered tallies to earn the win. Acadia goals came from Mason McCarty (PP), Cristiano Digiacinto (2) and Alexander Lepkowski (EN). Acadia's Logan Flodell made 32 saves while Dalhousie goaltender Reilly Pickard made 31 saves in the loss.
Acadia then went on to host the U Sports No. 3 ranked StFX X-Men, where they grabbed a 5-4 overtime victory. Stephen Harper delivered the penalty shot goal in overtime for his second goal of the game. Jordy Stallard also led the Axemen in the win with two goals, with other tally coming from McCarty on the power play. X-Men goals came from Daniel Robertson, Cole MacDonald (2) and Matt Needham (PP).
The Saint Mary's Huskies have now won three straight after topping the Tigers 6-2 Saturday night. Saint Mary's goals came from Keith Getson (SH), Mitchell Balmas (2), Anthony Repaci, Stephen Johnson and Mark Trickett, while Dalhousie goals came from Jonathan Cyr and Campbell Pickard. The Huskies now sit in fourth with a 3-1 record.
The UPEI Panthers visited the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus Wednesday evening, playing to a 4-1 win. The Panthers got onto the board early with a goal from Owen Headrick just over two minutes into play. Moncton evened the scoring in the second with a power play goal from Robbie Graham, however just minutes later the Panthers regained their lead with a power play tally from Darian Pilon. In the third, goals from Troy Lajeunesse and Nick Shumlanski allowed UPEI to hold on for the win.
The UNB Reds raised their national championship banner to the Aitken Centre rafters on Friday, then blanked the visiting l'Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus 4-0. Goals in the game came from just two scorers, Patrick Watling and Stephen Anderson.
The Reds then edged the Panthers 3-2 in Charlottetown Saturday evening, extending their record to 3-1 on the season. Tyler Boland scored twice in the win, with one tally on the power play. Oliver Cooper also added a goal in the win, with Panthers goals coming from Darian Pilon and Jesse Sutton (PP).
