X-Men earn four point win to extend lead in men's basketball standings

In a week with just four AUS men's basketball games in action, the StFX X-Men played to an 80-74 overtime victory over the Dalhousie Tigers Saturday night, allowing them to distance themselves from the pack in the standings with an 11-2 record for 32 points on the season.

Subway player of the game Dondre Reddick netted 22 points for the home team Saturday night, while chipping in five rebounds and going 3-5 from behind the arc. Avan Nava dropped 20 points for StFX, while dishing three assists, and David Muenkat had a double-double on the night, with 13 points and 21 rebounds. Dalhousie player of the game Nginyu Ngala lead all scorers in the loss with 26 points, while adding eight rebounds, while teammate Malcolm Christie added 13 points, including three three-pointers.

The Tigers hit the court twice this weekend, visiting the Cape Breton Capers in Sydney Friday night where the home team earned a 92-61 victory. Tyson Cato, the Subway player of the game led the winning effort with 21 points and nine rebounds, while teammate Osman Omar finished with 19 points, three rebounds and one assist. Nginyu Ngala led the Tigers with 13 points, while adding two rebounds and two assists.

The Capers then traveled to Fredericton Sunday afternoon to face the UNB Reds in what turned out to be a thriller. The Reds held off a late surge by the Capers to win a critical four-point game, 83-80. Norm Burry led the home team, recording a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to earn Subway Player of the Game honours. Justus Peuser led all scorers with 20 for Cape Breton, while Tyson Cato posted a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

In Thursday night action, the Acadia Axemen earned their second win of the season with an 87-62 win over the visiting Saint Mary's Huskies. Thomas MacDonald earned the title of Subway Player of the Game. MacDonald gave the Axemen great minutes, posting 19 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks. Jayrell Diggs was the Player of the Game for the Huskies as he contributed a team-high 18 points.
