X-Men earn eight-point weekend to lead men's basketball standings

In Week 4 of AUS men's basketball action, the U SPORTS No. 7 ranked StFX X-Men played to back-to-back victories over the Memorial Sea-Hawks, allowing them to pick up eight points.

The X-Men hosted the Sea-Hawks in Antigonish this weekend, first playing to a huge 121-63 win Saturday night. Subway player of the game, Antoine Vernon, scored 18 points for the X-Men, while Bennet Grumbach had 17 as the X-Men shot 58.6% from field goal range. Emanuel Ring led the Sea-Hawks in points with 16 in the loss.

StFX then extended their winning streak to three, dropping the Sea-Hawks 78-72 on Coach K Court on Sunday afternoon. For the X-Men, David Muenkat earned Subway Player of the Game honours, picking up 20 points and seven boards, while Antoine Vernon had 13 points for the home team, adding four assists and five rebounds. Emanuel Ring led the Sea-Hawks in scoring and earned player of the game for his squad, dropping 23 points in the loss. Nicholas Tuff was close behind, adding 19 points and six rebounds for the visitors.

The UNB Reds rallied late in regulation on Saturday night and needed overtime to beat the UPEI Panthers. Marcus Barnes, the Subway Player of the Game, was able to hit an improbable three-point shot at the buzzer to tie the game and send it to overtime. The Reds were able to walk away with the 82-79 win in overtime, earning a huge four points for the second win of the season. Barnes finished the night with a game-high 21 points, adding six rebounds and five assists in the win. Elijah Miller led the way for the Panthers with 20 points, adding seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
 
Friday night, the Cape Breton Capers scored a thrilling 102-91 victory over the Saint Mary's Huskies in Sydney. Jason Callaghan, the Subway player of the game, led all scorers with 34 points, on a sensational 13-for-19 from the field, while adding six rebounds and five assists. Osman Omar and Live Kivuvu scored 18 apiece, while Justus Peuser added 12. Tyson Cato contributed a monster double-double – 15 points and 21 rebounds – while adding five assists. For the Huskies, Shae Linton-Brown finished with a team-high 27 points, while adding 10 rebounds, nine assists, and three steals, as part of a double-double performance.
