Week 12 AUS Football Players of the Week: Bussey, Blackett and Harrington

Offensive Player of the Week
Name: Malcolm Bussey
University: St. Francis Xavier University
Position: Running back
Hometown: Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia
Year of eligibility: Second
Academic program: Bachelor of Arts
Height and weight: 5'11", 192 lbs

STFX X-Men running back Malcolm Bussey is the AUS offensive player of the week for the week ending November 13, 2022.

A second-year human kinetics student from Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, Bussey had another big offensive game in the X-Men’s 21-14 Subway AUS Loney Bowl championship victory over Mount Allison on Saturday. He scored a 30-yard rushing touchdown to start the fourth quarter and give the X-Men a 21-5 lead at the time. He had 20 rushes in the game for 116 total yards.

Earlier this week, Malcolm was honoured as the AUS most outstanding player and an AUS first team all-star. On Saturday, the X-Men will face the Canada West champions, the Saskatchewan Huskies, in the U SPORTS Uteck Bowl. That game will be hosted at STFX at 1 p.m.

Name: Dyton Blackett

Position: Linebacker
Hometown: Canning, Nova Scotia
Year of eligibility: Fourth
Academic program: Bachelor of Business Administration
Height and weight: 6’2”, 228 lbs

STFX X-Men linebacker Dyton Blackett is the AUS defensive player of the week for the week ending November 13, 2022.

A fifth-year business student from Canning, Nova Scotia, Blackett led the X-Men defense with eight tackles in their 21-14 Subway AUS Loney Bowl championship win over Mount Allison on Saturday. He had six solo tackles in the game, along with a forced fumble and a forced return. Blackett finished the season with 32.5 total tackles and was honoured as an AUS all-star. 

On Saturday, the X-Men will face the Canada West champions, the Saskatchewan Huskies, in the U SPORTS Uteck Bowl. That game will be hosted at STFX at 1 p.m.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Name: Ben Harrington
University: St. Francis Xavier University
Position: Returner/receiver
Hometown: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
Year of eligibility: First
Academic program: Bachelor of Business Administration
Height and weight: 6’3”, 180 lbs

STFX returner/receiver Ben Harrington is the AUS Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending November 13, 2022.

A third-year business student from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Harrington was named the Subway player of the game and playoff MVP in the X-Men’s 21-14 Subway AUS Loney Bowl championship win over Mount Allison on Saturday.

He had a key 94-yard punt return touchdown in the first quarter to ignite the X-Men offense, and added two kick-off returns for 55 yards and three punt returns for 103 yards. On offense, he had three receptions for 24 yards, tallying 183 all-purpose yards in the game. Earlier in the week, Harrington was honoured as an AUS all-star.
