(Windsor, N.S) Day 2 of the 2022 AUS Subway Curling Championships hosted by the Windsor Curling Club was “moving day” as all teams had two draws to play their way into the playoffs scheduled for Saturday.

Draw 2

Women

MTA (0-1) vs SMU (0-1)

In a tight contest that had two blank ends; MTA takes a single with hammer in the eighth end to win 4-3.

DAL (1-0) vs UNB (1-0)

Another close match that didn’t see a point on the board until the fourth end, Dalhousie steals 2 in eighth to win 4-3.

Men

SMU (1-0) vs MUN (0-1)

A back-and-forth affair was broken wide open when MUN takes five points in 7th end to come away with the 7-3 win.

Dal (1-0) vs UNB (0-1)

The Dalhousie Tigers proved too much for UNB with consecutive steals in 6 and 7 run them out of rocks in eighth end to win 7-3.

Draw 3

Women

SMU (0-2) vs UNB (1-1)

Both teams took points when they had to but the difference was crucial steals by the Huskies in both the fourth and seventh ends to come away with the 6-3 victory.

DAL (2-0) vs MTA (1-1)

An excellent contest that saw both squads bring their A-game; with hammer the Mounties tied the game 5-5 with a single after 8 ends.  The extra end saw the Tigers with their hammer score two to win the game 7-5.

Men

SMU (1-1) vs DAL (2-0)

The Tigers opened the game with a deuce in one followed by steals in the second and third ends to go up 4-0.  The Huskies took two in fourth end but Dalhousie bounced back taking four in fifth to win the match 8-2.

MUN (1-1) vs UNB (0-2)

MUN sprinted out of the gates in this game; scoring five in the second end followed by steals of four points over next 3 ends to take a commanding 9-0 lead.  The REDS found the board late to end the match as a final 9-1.

At the end of round robin play the Dalhousie Tigers find themselves on top heading into the playoffs. Both the women’s and men’s teams finish first and secure automatic berths into Saturday afternoon’s finals. Their respective opponents will be determined in the morning semi-finals as the women’s side sees the Mount Allison Mounties take on the UNB Reds.  The Memorial Seahawks square off against the Saint Mary’s Huskies in the men’s bracket with both looking to find a path to the final.
