ANTIGONISH, NS - The U SPORTS No. 6 ranked X-Women soccer team extended their winning streak to eight games with a dominant 5-0 win over the Mount Allison Mounties on Friday night. STFX striker and AUS leading scorer Amanda Smith (Ottawa, ON) lead the way with an impressive four goal performance.

Smith opened the scoring in the seventh minute, tapping one in from just inside the box. She added to her AUS leading total just over a minute later, chipping one over the keeper's head from about 25 yards out.

Just under 15 minutes later, Caitlin Crichton (Ottawa, ON) knocked one home after a bit of a scramble on the goal-line to give STFX a 3-0 lead.

STFX continued to carry possession in the second half and Smith earned the hattrick in the 58th minute, taking a long through ball from Emma Steen (Stittsville, ON) then beat the keeper and tucked the ball in.

Smith added her fourth goal of the match about five minutes later with a clinical finish in the box. Ava Elgood (Ottawa, ON) had the assist.

The Mounties had a few chances late in the game, but the STFX backline was up to the challenge.

Jordyn Pratt (Calgary, AB) and Hailey Jones (Ottawa, ON) made a combined five stops for the X-Women shut out while Isabel Tanfara (Quispamsis, NB) had 13 saves for the Mounties.

Amanda Smith deservedly picked up player of the game honours for the X-Women. Mounties forward Taryn Greco (Sault Ste Marie, ON) revived the same accolade for her squad.

STFX next hit the pitch on Saturday evening, when they will host the UPEI Panthers. The Mounties are on the road again on Saturday when they will head to Sydney to take on the Cape Breton Capers.
