Mounties’ comeback falls short against Huskies
(SACKVILLE, NB) The Mounties hosted the Saint Mary's Huskies in women's soccer action on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field. Both teams were coming off a game on Saturday but did not show any signs of fatigue as they gave the crowd an exciting 90 mins, the Huskies would win with a score of 3-2.
SMU would get on the board quickly as Anelise Karakostas (Victoria, BC) caught the Mounties goalkeeper out of position to make it 1-0. Both teams then struggled to find a rhythm and complete passes for the better part of the 1st half.
The Huskies made it 2-0 before the break as Allie Martin (Halifax, NS) made no mistake from the spot after the Mounties defender brought down her opponent in the box.
Mount Allison would get one back just before the halftime whistle after a scramble near the Huskies goal resulted in Kenadie Wagg (Halifax, NS) pushing it home. The Mounties would add one more early in the 2nd half via a corner kick courtesy of Megan LaHay (Oshawa, ON) that the Huskies could not handle properly handle.
Just as the hometown crowd was expecting their team to come away with one point Virginia Boone's (Halifax, NS) intended cross fooled the Mounties keeper and drifted into the top left corner.
Subway Player of the Game was Saint Mary's Anelise Karakostas (Victoria, BC) who led her team to victory.
