(Halifax, N.S.)—Kennisha-Shanice Luberisse guided the host U SportsNo. 9-ranked Saint Mary's Huskies Saturday night with 22 points in Saint Mary's 63-55 win over the Cape Breton University Capers in AUS women's basketball action from the Homburg Centre.
The Montreal, Quebec native shot 4-6 from beyond SMU's three-point line and had six rebounds.
Saint Mary's held a 21-13 lead after the opening quarter and CBU outscored the Huskies 13-12 in the second frame and Saint Mary's led 33-26 at the half.
The Huskies used a 16-9 third quarter and led 49-35 after thirty minutes.
Cape Breton posted a 20-14 fourth quarter score and Saint Mary's held on for the 63-55 victory.
Alison Keough (Marion Bridge, N.S.) led the Capers with 19 points and six rebounds while Colleen Keane (Scarborough, Ont.) added 17 points and three steals.
Cape Breton drops to 9-2 (30 points) with the loss.
Angelina Carvery (Halifax, N.S.) had 12 points and nine rebounds for SMU, who improve to 10-2 (26 points) in conference play.
Jenny Lewis (Fall River, N.S.) went 5-5 from the free throw-line and finished with 10 points in the win.
Both teams return to action Saturday January 21st at 6 p.m. from the Homburg Centre in Halifax.
